Talwrn Green

Last updated: 15 April 2008

Villager Rosemary Ralphes talks about Talwrn Green, Wrexham.

Talwrn Green is a small village on the border with Cheshire, about 10 miles to the east of Wrexham. Although a small linear village, it boasts a church, a chapel, a village hall and a school. We have no village shop now, or post office, which has moved across the border to the next village. It is a quiet rural village, which interestingly, only one half of the name has been translated into Welsh. The local infants school, which was build in 1879 and is still in use today, although it shares its time and pupils with a school in the Wyches. St Mary Magdelene Church of Wales, with its unusal wooden shingles on the roof had its foundation stone laid in 1872 and services are still held there. The very large Rectory is now a private residence, as is the Old Post Office. The School House was orignally used as accommodation for the headteacher. There is one surviving farm in the village, Tallarn Green Farm which is still a working farm. Single track roads lead to Talwrn Green, which can be found about 3 miles from the main Wrexham to Whitchurch road.
