Bands remembered 2

Rory's Gleneagles

Last updated: 17 April 2009

Dave Johnson was a member of Rory's Gleneagles during the 60s. Here he remembers the band and his fellow band members.
  • The Dek Dooley band remembered

  • The group had been going for a while when I joined them in around 1962. At the time John Marubbi was lead guitar, Alan Bramwell on drums (sadly both have passed away), Fred Baker on bass and Derek Powis on rhythm guitar.

We enjoyed many bookings in the local area, as well as supporting top-line acts at Shrewsbury Music Hall fortnightly. These included Brian Poole and the Tremeloes and Nashville Teens. We also supported The Mojos for three nights at the Royalty, Chester, and Wayne Fontana and Billy J. Kramer at the Victoria Rooms, Oswestry.

One of our highlights was playing at the famous Cavern where we entered a competition. We took a coachload of supporters from Wrexham with us!

During my time with the band Colin Jones joined the group as support singer and he and I formed a really good partnership in singing Everly Brothers songs.

The group continued for a while before disbanding and one or two of the lads joined other local groups.
