Groups and individuals in NE Wales have put together their own local history sites. Here's a sample...


Bagillt Heritage Society

Bagillt Heritage Society's website gives brief histories of buildings and industry in the area, including Bagillt Gaol and Gladlys Smelting House.
The site is well illustrated using drawings by local artists and also has poems by local people.

Bagillt History Club

The club's new website provides details about publications relating to the town as well as old photos .


Bangor on Dee

Written by a resident of the village, this site gives an overview of the history of Bangor-on-Dee focussing on St Dunawd Church and Bangor Bridge which is believed to have been built by Inigo Jones.
The site also includes photographs of buildings in the village and views of the river Dee together with local information.
As well as providing a history of Bangor-on-Dee the website also gives information on eating and shopping in the village which is a useful guide if you're thinking of visiting.
Brymbo Heritage Group

Made up of a group of local villagers and ex-steelworkers, the Brymbo Heritage Group holds regular meetings and is open to new members. The website gives a history of the steelworks as well as information and photos of other landmarks in the area. An attractive feature is the walks page which guides walkers round the village, pointing out historical features of interest.
Buckley History Society

Buckley History Society's site provides an introduction to the town and its history and is illustrated with old photographs and drawings of aspects of the town.
The site also has information on how to join the Society, its events and the magazine which it produces.
The magazine can be purchased from the Society or viewed at Buckley Library.
Cheshire Memories

The Chronicle series of newspapers across the region is gathering and sharing contributors' memories, including those from readers of in NE Wales.
Clwyd Family History Society

An essential site for those researching their family history in North East Wales.
Clwyd Family History Society is involved in indexing and transcribing historical documents, providing a forum for its members to meet and exchange information and producing a journal and a series of lectures and visits on relevant topics.
The website tells you all about how to get involved and also provides lists of the information the society holds and how to access it.
It has a very comprehensive section of links to other useful sites, including local Record Offices and other family history sites.
Froncysyllte

This site featuring the village of Froncysyllte contains memories of the village written by a local resident and a wonderful picture gallery with old photos of almost every aspect of life in Fron, past and present.
The site's author is keen for others to contribute also so if you have any memories you'd like to share log on to his site now.
Glyn Valley Tramway

The website of a voluntary organisation seeking to research and preserve the history of the Glyn Valley tramway in the Ceiriog Valley. The site has information on the history of the tramway, which opened in 1873, with some old photos of the tramway in operation. There is also further information on the group's activities and a blog to share news and thoughts.

This site is dedicated to the Flintshire village of Llanasa.
It has a page containing some historical information and has an interesting archive of photographs of the village from various periods.
Minera History

This site was set up to highlight the area & family histories within the villages of Minera, Gwynfryn, Coedpoeth & Bwlchgwyn. The site will continue to be updated as information becomes available. It is hoped through contributions of researchers who have roots within this area that the site will become a valuable resource for all.

This site aims to preserve the pictorial history of north Wales. It contains a wealth of old photos and postcards from the area, including old pictures of Buckley, Flint, Dyserth and many more.
Shotton

A very detailed account of the history of Shotton from Saxon times to the present.
Created by a native of the town, the site tells you all you could possibly want to know about its history with sections on different historical periods, individual histories of the town's shops illustrated by original advertisements from some of them and a gallery of old photographs from the area.
A great resource if you're looking for historical information on Shotton.
War Memorials in the Parish of Northop
