TowynNE Wales experienced major flooding in autumn 2000, when the river Dee reached its highest level since 1946. In one day alone the volunteers of Flint RNLI found themselves called out to 95 rescues.
  • 1990 Towyn floods

Prior to that there was major flooding in Towyn in 1990. There hasn't been serious flooding since 2000 and the local authorities took steps to improve the flood defences, but the severity of the last floods keeps the issue at the front of people's minds.

To help inform people at risk the Environment Agency has published indicative flood plain maps online and helpful information for those who find themselves living in a flood risk area.

You can also access the latest severe weather warnings online and BBC Weather have a helpful guide on what to do before, during and after a flood.

The Environment Agency also run a 24-hour advice line -
    Floodline on 0845 988 1188.
