Start: Park the car on the roadside in the village of Graigfechan - spelled Graig-fechan on maps - which is off the A525 south of Ruthin or at the 17th century Three Pigeons Inn (with the landlord's permission) GR 147545.
Points of interest: The walk begins along a leafy lane with occasional glimpses across the Vale of Clwyd. You will pass the remains of a lime kiln. In the past this hillside would have been coppiced and the wood used in the burning of limestone to produce quick lime.
The lime was used to improve the fertility of pasture. This is ancient woodland filled with limestone-loving flowers.
Before you turn right walk on a little way until you come out into a small field with an unusual view of Moel Famau.
Climb the old drover's lane past Bryn Isaf Farm until the lane reaches the Offa's Dyke Path at a redundant brick piggery.
Here, two Bronze Age (3,000-5,000 years ago) burial mounds rest either side of the fence.
The Offa's Dyke Path takes you over a heathery hill to fine views of Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd.
