How'd you say glass?

Vernon Roberts Vernon's daughter found pronunciations the big issue when working away from home...

Listen to Vernon

Name: Vernon Roberts
Age: 61
Lives in: Flint, Flintshire
Lived here: 25 years
Born in the area? No
Description of own accent: As a fluent Welsh speaker my accent is predominantly Welsh when speaking English.

Transcript: speech marks I think my daughter suffered quite a bit with her accent, being from here. She went as a nanny to London and she was with a well-to-do family there, and she used to say to the children, 'Come on and have a bath now and then have a drink from a glass.' And then the lady there tried to correct the children and her to say 'barth' and 'glarse' but consequently when she came home and her friends at home here, they used to ridicule her because she said 'glarse' and 'barth' when she should say 'glass' and 'bath' as she always did. speech marks
