Glyndyfrdwy

Owain Glyndwr This page is dedicated to the Denbighshire village of Glyndyfrdwy which, locals say, is out of sight and out of mind despite its connections with Owain Glyndwr.

I have very fond memories of Glyndyfrdwy as a child and also passed onto us as children from my father who loved the village with a passion. His Nain, Taid and Aunty lived in Pen y Bont and he spent some years living there during the war and many holidays. We were also taken there for our holidays to stay in Pen y Bont and continued to holiday there until our Aunt died in 1990. I fell in love with a wonderful man from the village who sadly died. We still have family in and around Glyndyfrdwy. It will always be a very special place for me.

My now husband and I got engaged at the Sun Inn. 16 years later and still together. Very happy memories from there!

My interest in Glyndyfrdwy is that my father's parents/family lived at no. 1 and then 4 Sun Terrace before moving to Liverpool (due to lack of work in the quarry) in 1915 leaving a number of relatives behind, but not out of touch. I had summer holidays there as a schoolboy and a honeymoon when married. All of that family are long departed this world but I have started a family tree and wondered if any of the Jones-Roberts families are still about. I remember staying in the farm 'Bryntirion'? just off the A5 road on the road down to 'Lletty' and 'TwnPath' also with family associations, also the butchers shop and 'TanLlan', Carrog, 'Fynnon Werne', Glyndyfrdwy. Walks up the 'Pandy' and blueberrying on the hills across the river with my mother and sister and a little bit of harvesting from the farm. As I remember it the young people of the era had a cinema in Llangollen and Corwen, probably a weekly dance but little else apart from rabbiting, not allowed alcohol but still did not cause any trouble.

I agree with the issue of spoiling the local land but the main thing the local councils could do to help this is build a track where the off road motorbike riders can go and charge for the use of this facility. In due course this would lower the amount of kids riding on our roads etc which causes more hassle as myself I have to travel up and down the UK more than 2hrs to get to a track to ride my bike which is a great hobby I enjoy but there is nothing up here in north Wales. As with many other people that enjoy this sport we need tracks in north Wales or the local area will be subject to more illegal riding on and off road (councils please take not and action on this).

I drive a 4x4, legally. Before I set off, I check with the local Highways Authorities and Rights of Way departments to ensure that the planned route is a Right of Way that is open, (not under a Traiffc restriction Order), that will not be damaged by the passage of a Land Rover at 5mph, and that has access rights for Mechanically Propelled Vehicles. In most activities, it seems, there is a small element who spoil it for everyone else. Unfortunately, in off roading, it seems to be the other way round. There are too many people who think they can drive where they want off-road, and who do not care what damage they do to the terrain, and a small number who try to do things 'right'. I fully support and applaud all activities conducted by the Council and Police and other authorities in trying to stop these illegal activities, to protect the countryside, and to stop me getting tarred with the same brush as these idiots.

Glyndyfrdwy is a good place 2 live but it's so boring! There is nothing to do for the kids round here which makes them want to drink and cause trouble and I think this would stop if we had something to do in our spare time.
