2 - Wrexham Steeple

St Giles or Wrexham Steeple

The 16th century tower of St Giles Church is a major feature in Wrexham and one of Wales' Seven Wonders. Wrexham's town planners believe the church is at the historic heart of the town although today it's very much on the edge. This, they believe, is revealed in the street patterns which show how the town grew out from the boundary of the churchyard.

Although referred to as a steeple in the Seven Wonders of Wales rhyme, it is actually a tower, the first of which collapsed in the 1300s. In fact it was rebuilt again in the early 1500s following a fire which largely destroyed the whole church.
