Ruby Houghton

Last updated: 03 December 2005

Ruby from Rhos on Sea was was inspired to write a poem at the time of the Towyn floods.

The Raging Winter

Winter is roaring in this year - no crisp and crunchy floor,
No frost encrusts the trees and walls - nought but the angry roar,
Of a fearsome wind that sobs and sighs, ripping out roof and tree,
Fuming the waters across the land lashed by the rivers and sea,
Scattered like matchwood lie cars and walls - flotsam amindst the flood,
No tangled power lines hum with calls, abandoned in the mud,
Delicate daffodils bend and sway - defying old winter's rages,
Through thunder roll and lightning flash - a winter for history's pages,
Is it the 'greenhouse effect' o'er the land, or just a freak in the cycle,
We learn when nature takes command the outcome can be frightful,
We have offended her I fear and how she doth protest,
How puny is the strength of man when challenged in the test.
