Hi, As you Know the Friends of the Scala Prestatyn have battled with authorities to have the Scala reinstated. Well, you probably already know that they succeeded. We now have a totally digital two screen cinema and arts centre which is state of the art. To celebrate this, Mr Fred Hobbs, our local historian who is in his 80s, has spent nealy two years digging out archives etc getting information to write a history book on the Scala. This he has donated to the Friends to help with their fundraising. The Friends decided to put their own little bit at the end of the book to let folks know what people power can do. This book makes really interesting reading not only about the Scala but about some of the old local characters that were around at the time. To obtain a signed limited edition copy, just turn up at the Scala on Friday 19th June 2009 at 11am with £5.99 and you to can have one to hand down to your children or grandchildren for future investment and education.

David (Dai Swill, Dave) Williams: Rhyl, Prestatyn,
Where are you all now...Pete Smith, Chris Bond, Tony Place, Jill Roche, Johanna, Tony (Pongo) Jones, Sheligh Williams, Hazel Wright et al...I have now reached the ripe old age of 74 and would be happy to hear from one of you out there...remember the great coffee chats at the Italian place on High St - the hikes to the Eagle and Child (bird and baby!) and the fun times at the two Churches up the 'Hill' Trinity and the C of E halfway 'up' the hill? Good memories what! More to come later. Cheers Dai...

I left Prestatyn in 1999, but not before raising the money and further sponsorship to open the long awaited Pop-In-Centre for the young people of Prestatyn. After many had tried and failed, I remember working and painting on my own most of the time until early hours to get it open. But I was soon set aside by some councillors an police who then used the achievement for political objectives. I also launched the very first Retail Radio Scheme in North Wales, launching this in 1993 and then in Prestatyn, training staff and working with other partners. Oh Happy Days. Then a year after I left North Wales with no recognition, others went to the Palace for gongs - typical, and I was told after it was for all.

I have found it really interesting reading the posts people have left about Chatsworth House. I was the very last person born there in July 1985 and it is something I am quite proud of and never tire of telling people. I have been trying to find out about Chatsworth House for years but have no idea how to find out about it. If anyone has any historical information on Chatsworth House I would love to hear it. Thank you in advance for any information given.

Hi, currently looking for all ex cadets and staff of 2193 Prestatyn Air Training Corps that have been to the squadron through the years, so if you know someone that was here then please get in touch. No matter how old you are, some of us are organising a huge reunion, one that Prestatyn will remember for years to come, so do not miss out, as we would love to know what ex cadets have done since leaving. Contact me on Facebook or mail reunion2193 at ntlworld dot com. Thank you.

If you have never been to North Wales before then watch out for the speed cameras. People have told us "we will never come to North Wales again as we cannot concentrate on our driving due to all the cameras". Oh, and do not bring your Hovercraft, you will not be allowed to use it on our beaches!

Please could anyone tell me the best steps to take in order to move to Prestatyn or thereabouts. We have 4 children and a few pets as I do some fostering for the Cats Protection. We do not own our own home and so would have to rent and also find work. I would also be changing university. We have wanted to do this for such a long time but are unsure of what to do first. Many thanks.

It seems dog owners get their fair share of bad publicity, but I have been trying to get Denbighshire County Council, and Country Park Wardens to empty these bins for over a week in this hot weather. One is full at Coed Y Morfa, Prestatyn Community Woodland.

I have very fond memories of my time at Vale View Boarding School on Meliden Road. The school had another part to it along Gronant Road which was called "Silvermere" which is where I first stayed as a boarder. I was at the school from 1960 - 1966. I remember going to the Brownies by walking along the railway track at the back of Vale View every Saturday morning with my friend from next door. Also, going to the library in the High Street followed by spending my pocket money in Woolworths which was right at the bottom of the High Street on the left. Also, many happy hours spent at both the cinemas, Scala and I can't remember the name of the other one. Also, I attended Sunday School at Trinity Church where the Vicar was Reverend Lawton. Always enjoyable were the many walks from Vale View up the mountains. It was a very special time in my life. I am hoping that there may be some information / books / pictures on Vale View School.

My husband and myself along with my 10 year old son are in the process of selling our house in Manchester and relocating to Prestatyn. Could someone please advise what the crime rate is like and the junior schools...

While stationed at RAF Sealand in the 1950s I got to know a wonderful family in Prestatyn. They had three daughters, Olive, Loretta, and Maureen Ferber. Does anyone know of or where any of these three young (in the 1950s) ladies are?

Yes, Peter Pittam in Calgary, Chatsworth House is still there but it is now a hospital for older people. My friends from Prestatyn live in Calgary - it's a very nice place. I go over every few years - it's great for the Rockies.

A small hillside village becomes part of the World Wide Web on the 15th April 2008 as Gwaenysgor launches its very own website. The project is the brainchild of resident Jean Brown who felt that, having lost the village shop and post office some years ago, the village needed a focus for people to connect and exchange information. To view the site or for further information go to gwaenysgor.org.uk (after the launch).

I have just received my long birth certificate, in which it states I was born in Chatsworth House, Prestatyn, in 1943. Every passport or short birth cert. I ever had states St Asaph (Registration district). It seems the "house" is/was a hospital, I am looking for a picture of my birth place, Chatsworth House, I was born Roy Joseph Hughes, later adopted.

I moved from Manchester 5 years ago, the crime rate is non existent compared to Ashton, the schools, my boys go to Bodnant Infants and it is excellent, never had trouble with work. I would never ever move back to Manchester, and it would take a special place to move me from Prestatyn.

Hello there. Just wondered if Gareth Davies is the brother of an old friend of mine Sylvia Davies. Father was the Police Sargeant, and they lived next door to Nant Hall Presbyterian Church. Have often wondered where she lives.

Some of my earliest memories are looking out of the bedroom bay window of my grandparents' house, Y Coed in Bishops Wood Road, and watching the lights come on along the sweep of the Rhyl road towards Colwyn Bay and waiting for the Irish Mail bound for Holyhead to steam through. My grandfather, Thomas Hughes, was the manager of the quarry and my mother was the oldest of six children. I remember Carol Vorderman as a small child living in the house on the corner with the balcony. My cousin Doris and I used to play in the woods and the track leading to Manor House and the gardens. My brother was born and sadly died in Chatsworth House. Prestatyn has always been a very special place for me but it is a great pity that in recent years the High Street has begun to look very run down. There are also very few places to stay overnight at a reasonable cost when years ago in the holiday season you could get a room anywhere. I don't think the tourist office in Rhyl helpful at all in this respect as all they seem interested in is some seedy guest houses off Bath Street, Rhyl. Prestatyn should not just be seen as a retirement home of the elderly out of Lancashire, a sort of waiting room to paradise, but as a vibrant, caring society and whilst it is not possible to recreate the past it is surely possible to build on those ancient strengths alive within people from this part of the principality to regenerate the town.

We have retired and moved to Prestatyn from Swindon, Wilts. We love it here and would not move back to Wiltshire, it is lovely to see the mountains and the beautiful coastline, and we have found the people here are very helpful and friendly. My son often comes to visit with the grandchildren and they enjoy the beach and cycle all along the cycle path into Rhyl.

In reply to Debs Anderson in Manchester. The schools in Prestatyn are brilliant especially Bodnant although I am biased because I am a governor. Crime levels are low, a big difference from Manchester. There are a good number of jobs available. I recommend you give it a go. I moved here 15 years ago from Manchester and I love Prestatyn. The people are warm and friendly and you have the lovely sea air and not forgetting people seem to live longer here.

We are thinking of quitting the rat race of Manchester & moving to Prestatyn. We have an 18 month old child and one on the way. What are the schools like & what is the job & crime situation like there? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thought I would start this off - I'm sure many people can add their memories of Kwik Save from the early days of Albert Gubay through the heady heights of the eighties and early nineties, a true success story from North Wales.

Prestatyn - what a beautiful town. My family are from Machynlleth, but I've decided to spend the rest of my life in Prestatyn - isn't it wonderful to have a traditional High Street without being swallowed up by huge supermarkets?

My family have been in Prestatyn since at least the 19th century. I watched Carol Vorderman on "Who Do You Think You Are" last night and her mother, who is from Prestatyn, was also a Davies. Her grandfather, Daniel Davies, was a local butcher. Is anyone out there related to Carol's mother? I know it's not an uncommon name in N Wales but I wonder if there's a connection with my lot.
