The tail of the pike
The river runs, twisted and turning,
Always giving, but never yielding.
Fish and stoat they run this way and that.
Tossing and turning in their wake, always searching.
But in the deep of this running river lies the monster with eyes protruding,
And with razor sharp teeth,
Awaiting.
Darts to take the bait
And fight he does with all HIS might, always giving, but never yielding.
To shake the hook,
That's buried deep
The line is taunt and strong and true, the net awaiting
The fisherman grunts with all HIS might, always giving, but never yielding.
And so like the river it comes to pass,
This fish is caught at last,
But so like all a fisherman
First take hold
Then
Releases his catch.
My three boys
Three grandsons have I,
Two brothers and a cousin,
One tall one, middle and one small,
And when I look upon any face
I see at a glance with a trace,
That in their eyes
There holds
For me
A long line of history
And a future to behold.
Sam the cousin, tall and strong always ready to give a hand,
Jack, the eldest of the brothers with wit and charm to melt any heart,
And last but not least comes Oliver small and bright, with golden curls
To light your day, as any angel who would like to be, with a heart as big as all the rest.
And all three always giving and never taking,
Oh what a proud grandfather I turned out to be!
When I was small
My name is Oliver and,
When I was small,
And only knee high tall
My world was of wonder and awe,
When I was knee high tall,
'Come play', said a voice
That only I could see,
A new friend as tall as me,
With funny pointed ears and a long pointed nose,
And like I said he was knee high tall just like me,
And play as we did,
From Robin Hood and his men, to pirates at sea till it was time for tea,
And as I turned with mummy's hand,
Once more I looked to that new friend of mine,
Who was knee high tall like me ?
For you
There was never a place to call home,
But on reflection
I found a love to warm any soul.
It came from within,
I never knew was there,
But was born on the day I was born,
And came to the fore when all around was falling.
So look no further you seekers of want and need
For within your heart is all you need,
So just say a prayer,
And he will hear,
For it was he who put it there.
A voice from the past
A voice I knew as a child,
At Sunday school was there he spoke to me,
And so just like a dream it came to me again.
Soft and calm, his words when needed were to help,
I felt as I have felt before in time of need, he was at my door.
And to hear him say, Here I am,
A feeling I will never lose no mater were I dwell,
So be like me and fear no harm, for at a call,
He answers every prayer.
Like out of the past
Like out of the past
It came, in a flash
Memories flooding
Feelings tingling
Love abounding
With meaning.
Their words a ringing clear as day
And so with hope
I'll see the unfolding.
I touch the floor
I smell the air
God I know is everywhere.
So share with me
This day of days
When even you
Will understand
I want for nought
To understand that what my parents said so long ago
That every new day is a bonus.
Bouncing Ball
Well here we are again
Looks like we have been here before
Bubble burst, houses fall, mortgage high
Old age pensioners on the call
Food up, fuels up, wages at a standstill.
Moneymen making more money
MPs promise this and that
Please put a penny in the old man's hat
Everything a gloom
Ideas flashing back and forth.
Here it comes again?
Hey let's have a war,
Helps to change the subject.
Anyway people soon forget,
Newspaper headliner, calling for support
MPs hands a ringing of good times yet to come.
That was yesterday's news.
Here what's at
If we promise this and that for next year's bounty
Who will remember today's folly?
Anyway OUR own nest egg is growing.
