The Racecourse Reds and Blues

By Chris Rogers

Horses don't run any more,
But we've seen a few donkeys since then.
There's Lions and Wolves at the door,
Bees making honey again,
Pirates are searching for treasure,
Pilgrims are saying their prayers,
Lilywhites chatter, they're madder than Hatters,
And Bluebirds greet Swans on the stairs.

My father should shoulder the blame
For starting me off on this way,
It's never been glory or fame
That brings me back day after day.
Obsession was born in the 60s
Never was broken again,
A lifetime of pity began with York City,
A nothing-each draw in the rain.

When Robins fly high on the wings of a song
Voices are raised, passion is strong,
We know in our hearts that it's there we belong,
The Racecourse Reds and Blues,
The Racecourse Reds and Blues.

But where would we be without dreams?
Sometimes they even come true.
When heroes take life as it seems
And make it exciting and new.
The Mickeys, the Dixies and Joeys,
The Arfons, the Psychos and Mays
Can make immortality out of reality
And brighten the darkest of days.

When Robins fly high on the wings of a song
Voices are raised, passion is strong,
We know in our hearts that it's there we belong,
The Racecourse Reds and Blues,
The Racecourse Reds and Blues.
