Gwyn Jones: "Lodge Brymbo, circa 1910-18. My grandmother, Annie Edwards, is standing at the gate of Pisgah
Cottage on the left where she gave birth to 9 healthy children
including my mother, Mair Eluned. The eldest daughter, Hilda, was
among the first killed during the Manchester blitz - 9 Whalley Ave,
Oct 8 1940. She was killed with Miss Rees, a teacher from
Corwen, see 'Luftwaffe Over Manchester'. My Nain from Ffestiniog/ Cwm Penmachnio preached in the streets during the 1905 Methodist Revival. The post office opposite was called 'Charlie's'. Molten ladles were rolled down the bank on which the steelworks was built (in the background). This was a great spectacle when I spent many holidays at Pisgah Cottage travelling by bus from Betws y Coed to Wrecsam. The last member of the family to work at the steelworks was the youngest child, Gwynfryn Edwards, who suffered badly from fumes escaping from the blast furnace. He was torpedoed several times during World War 2 when a navy gunner."
