Hello there. Have been enjoying reading some of the stories. I am originally from Prestatyn, and have been in the United States over 40 years, but still miss my hometown. Lovely childhood memories of walking with my friends up the mountain and picnics with sand in our sandwiches at the golf club beach. We talk of how much freedom we had, which is sadly not the same for youngsters these days. I come "Home" as often as I can, and am now looking forward to another visit next month. Carol Ann Desai (Williams) I lived in Deva Lodge, Gronant Road.

Ffrith Beach: We moved to Prestatyn from Yorkshire when I was 14 in 1966 and through a friend got a summer job with Prestatyn UDC parking cars on the big car park there. Saw lots of people from Manchester, Liverpool and all over who came for day trips or were on holiday. Particularly remember the British Army setting up and doing a mock battle right there with a big crowd watching. Spare time we roamed the sand hills and amusements, never a dull moment!

Until I came across this site, I thought, silly me, that I was the only one with wonderful, wonderful memories of long summer holidays spent in Prestatyn with my gran-aunt, Mrs (Kathleen) Greaney, (and Doris) at 70 Nant Hall Road. My cousins, Glyn and Trevor Jones were born across the road at Nant Mill Farm but eventually moved to Mertyn Abbot farm at Whitford, Holywell. Glyn, who was mayor of Prestatyn in 2005, lives with his wife Helen near Meliden and Trevor and wife Carole live in Holywell. I have such warm, wonderful treasured memories of two or three months spent each summer from 1952 to about '67/'68 where the summers seemed hotter, the days much longer... the beach, the Ffrith, day-trips to Rhyl and Ocean Beach, the swings and crazy golf at the gardens near the railway station, the gardens at the top of the High Street, Tony's toy shop (bigger than any toyshop in the world) which moved from top of High Street to bottom, the odd wet afternoon at the Scala watching Sound of Music or Pollyanna, fish and chips on Friday from the chipper followed by iced cakes, Knickerbockerglories at Forte's, Woolworths, the annual church fete, the carnival, the Wilkinson Twins (Jean and Ann) next door, a first, fumbling kiss, Alf Roberts the taxi-man, the open-air bus, the steam engine.. Glynis Owen, Mrs Wilcoxin, Ms Brown, the Birtwhistles, the Parrys, Pip Roche...I could go on...if there is a Heaven (and the older I get the less inclined I am to believe) it is Prestatyn in the summers of my young years.

I worked in Cooks holiday centre in Prestatyn in 1972 and used to go to the Ffrith pub. Does anyone remember this place with Chrys Wright, Harry Bennett, Roy Hodges and Harold, can't think of surname?

From 1940-1943 I was at St Chads School. Is it still there? I see from the map that there is a St Chads Way. I have a couple of school photos which I will try to find and post them on your site. Many happy memories of Prestatyn.

For many years in the 1960s / 70s and later, a group of us used to lead the donkeys and ponies, giving rides on Ffrith Beach, working for "the donkey man" as he was affectionately known - Mr Pulleine. Amazingly, many of that original group of friends are still in touch! Last year we had a 40th anniversary meeting and hope to hold another one next year, somewhere in the Ffrith / Prestatyn area. If anyone remembers us or has any photos of the ponies and donkeys taken during those very happy years (when the sun always seemed to shine!) it would be fanastic to see them on this new site! If you remember any of us: Pat, Babs, Les, Hazel, Linda, Sue, the other Sue, Jen, Jules, Terry, Kim,Bob, etc., etc. PLEASE get in touch! We'd love to hear from you.

Hi does anyone remember 2 entertainment managers at Prestatyn holiday camp in the 1950s, not sure of exact date they were Trevor Smith and Pat but might have used stage name as Maria? Please can anyone help?

I was Miss Prestatyn 1976! I wouldn't change my summer holidays growing up in Prestayn for all the Disney Lands in the world. I remember the Lido beach caravan park where grandad had a static caravan and our dog was let out at the little shop in the entrance and he knew the way to the caravan. We would spend 10p per day at the penny arcade or on an icecream.

Keep the old photos coming in from the 70s / 80s of the Ffrith. They really are so nice to see now the Ffrith has gone or should I say the way it used to be.

My family moved to Prestatyn in 1946 - I was 5 - and for more years than I can remember (when I was old enough) I used to watch the Pierrot Shows at the Ffrith for as long as they were prepared to perform. They used to have a stand ( stage ) backing on to the old corrugated buildings opposite Happy Valley where the clock golf was laid out and in later years alongside the road up onto the beach. One year I was asked to shout "Roll Up" at the top of the hill and get free admission to the show. Punch and Judy was always on, and the song "One finger, one thumb, one arm one leg etc" was a favourite. This was 1950s I would guess - loing hot summers and the innocence of childhood - a pity these days it would be inconceivable to allow a child by itself to be in an area like that unaccompanied.

Ffrith beach: I remember going on the bumper boats there in 1986 trying to overturn them and my Godmother being in the boat too panicking and she still remembers me and the boats to this day! She's since had a stroke but whenever anyone mentions my name she still says 'the boats, the boats'!
