Victoria Cash in South Wales
Dear Joe and Andrea (Elwell if memory serves),I now live and work in South Wales with my husband and son. My family still live in South Africa but as my father has said in an earlier email we all have such fond memories of the Vicarage and the village. Would love to get back in touch. Please look me up on Facebook and we can try to get in contact.

For Nancy Lees. Hello Nancy, we have often wondered who is living now in the Vicarage, we only lived there for about 4 years but we loved the house and the village and to this day we still talk about it. We would love to have some pics if possible. Our daughter Vicci now lives in S. Wales so I will pass on your kind offer.
To Joe Lester. Hi Joe, we would love to see the old photos that Mo (Maureen) gave you. If you are still in Llanarmon any chance of an updated photo of the Old Vicarage, we have so many wonderful memories of our time there. Also, we remember when you did all the mods to your cottage. Look forward to hearing from you.

I was born in Llanarmon yn Iāl. My father was a minister at Rhiw Iāl Chapel for many years and we lived at Maes Awelon which is opposite to Bryn Iāl. John Parry Jones was certainly a character but a very good friend of the family. We have many good memories of the village and still have good friends in the area that we contact.

Very interesting. My great-great-great grandmother, Maria Jones, was listed in the 1861 census as being post-mistress at Llanarmon - perhaps now your house! Her daughter Emma, after being widowed to a Henry Williams (tailor) married my great-great grandfather Price Davies. He was a stonemason, the workshop he used is still there near to the pub. Although I've not looked at my family tree for some time, I'd be interested if anybody has any information about them.

Mair Lloyd. Thank you for sharing your photos. My gr gr gr gr etc. grandfather was Jonathan Oldfield who was the only Oldfield family in Llanarmon in 1740s having moved from Youlgreave in Derbyshire. Therefore if your family originated from there too, we must be related. I would be pleased to pass on any family history I have if you are interested.

My family, on my father's side came from Ial, hence the family surname "Yale". Would love to correspond with any other Yales who have roots in Ial township, Wales. I have a family tree book that goes back to Dominus Otho and to Florence, Italy, where the family originated. Hope to hear from other Yales.

I'm still trying to persuade my wife to move to this beautiful part of the world. My grandfather, Howard Birrell, used to own a property called The Wern, outside of the village and I would dearly love to buy it and settle there with my family. I spent many school holidays there as a child and revisited a couple of years ago. Loved the people and Wales, can't say any more.

I have tracked the family back to Llanarmon-yn-Ial. My grandfather remembers the family farm was called "Chweleriog" originally run by his grandparents Edward and Eleanor Roberts. They had 17 children, and a few are buried in the Llandegla cemetery. I enjoyed my visit back to where it all started. Appreciate any feedback.

I used to stay at my nan's in Llanarmon. Message for Victoria Osborne, was your maiden name Cash? We spent all our summer holidays together and primary school and were best mates until you had to leave during your first year of Brynhyfryd school to live abroad with your mum, dad and brother.

I'm emigrating in the summer and before I leave I'd like to learn more about Robert and Mary Jones who lived at Plas Du farm, Llanarmon, from about 1851 until they moved to Pont Styllod, Llandegla, in c1861. At some point around 1871, their son John Jones and his wife Margaret returned to farm Plas Du and remained there until at least 1908. John and Margaret had three children; Edward Jones, Taliesin Llywarch Jones and Marietta Isabella Jones my great grandmother. I'd be absolutely delighted to trace any descendants of this family and share a glass or two at The Raven before I fly off across the Atlantic. Please contact me if you have any information. Thank you.

Message for Aubrey Smallwood. I have been researching the Smallwood family for several years and have found that we are both descended from the Smallwoods of Cymau. I have had contact with your son on several occasions who has helped me extremely. Would also love to hear from you. If you wish, you may contact me directly. Look forward to hearing from you.

I am looking for information regarding "Rose Cottage" in Llanarmon around 1925. My half sister was told that she was born there and baptised very close to the cottage. Any information would be welcome as it could enable me to find her baptism records.

Hi, I have been told there is a family grave for the Smallwoods in the Llanarmon churchyard. Would someone be kind enough to look it up for me? I have been researching the Smallwood family for several years now and have acquired a lot of information, which I would love to share with, if anyone has connections.

I have a picture of the old Vicarage in Llanarmon as asked for by Victoria Osborne, or Victoria Cash as I knew her and would dearly love to send her a copy. I also have some family pictures which I was given by her mother Maureen.

My Nan, Margaret Roberts, lived in Bryn Tirion just up the road from The Raven when I was a child in the 1950s. She was married to Jonathan Roberts and their son Norman and his wife Beryl also lived at Bryn Tirion. They opened a shop in the front room of the house. They subsequently took over the post office and my Nan lived with them in Liverpool House. My Auntie Madge Jones lived in Maes Garmon I think, but I am not sure of the number. As a girl I remember us walking up to the piggeries and picking bilberries on the mountain. I remember Llanarmon with great fondness - we visited the village about 4 years ago and found my Nan's grave in the cemetery just up the road from Bryn Tirion.

I was in Llanarmon-yn-Iāl this month and stopped by to see the Raven Inn. I am told by my cousin in Leeswood that our family ran this inn many, many years ago (my great great great grandparents), their surname was Edwards/Lloyd, I am told they left that business to become coal miners. I would love to learn more about the history of the inn.
