Rhisiart Arwel, Caerdydd/Cardiff
Hi there - Arwel ('Dick Arwel') here - now living in Cardiff, but lived in Corwen 1963 - 1974. Interesting to hear the comments about Harry Graves. I remember the man well, he was quite a character around Corwen. Phil Graves, one of his sons was my 'best mate' in the '60s and we used to go round everywhere and do all those adolescent things with each other - chasing girls and the like! Fabulous days! We used to sit around Romano's little coffee bar in the square for hours before going to the 'dance' in Pwllglas. Very 'cool' thing to do in those days believe it or not. Phil and I walked all the way back from Pwllglas to Corwen one night after a dance when we couldn't get a lift! Phil and I met up a few times during the '70s and '80s, but we sadly then lost touch. Been thinking of him a lot recently. Would be very grateful if anyone would tell him I'm looking for him! Very sorry to hear of the death of Barbara his sister. Hope someone can help! Scott?

My grandfather is Harry Graves and my mother was the late Barbara Graves. I'm mainly writing on behalf of my grandad within this to say that he was so pleased to hear that so many people remembered him. But am also writing to say that I'm so proud to hear that he is still held in such high regard! He is my idol no matter what, but to simply hear that people from such a long time ago still remember him is truly heart warming. Similarly, the fact that my mum's name is mentioned is fantastic. Thank you very much everybody for commenting on my family and any further tales that you could give regarding my mum or grandad would be greatly received!

A response to Graham Green. In answer to your enquiry about Philip or Barbara Graves, well sadly Barbara died just over 2 years ago and Philip (whom I have not seen for 25 years)is living in the Flint area so I believe. I still see Uncle Harry who still lives in Blacon. I am his niece. My father was a brother to Harry's late wife Helen.

Although it is a late response to John Wright of Sandycroft, I played cricket and football with Harry Graves who was a great sportsman and team member. His only problem was that both he and Kenny Williams would eat most of the Cricket tea sandwiches before the rest of us could get near them. A tale my dad (Will Llaeth) told me still makes me laugh today. Harry was collecting mushrooms near a Mental Institution in Denbigh when one of the inmates chased him. Harry ran for his life losing all his mushrooms, crossing many fields Harry gave up and fell to the ground when the inmate caught up with him and said "Tick you're on"! It was a sad day when Harry had a bad motor bike accident which severely injured his leg and finished his sporting aspirations. Please pass on my regards.

To Ian Menzies, How could I ever forget you and your family? You were the best friends that Seve and I had as kids. Do you remember when we used to fish togeather at the "Lake", we did not catch much of consequence, but was the point really? It was so good to receive your E-Mail, it brought tears to my eyes and a big lump in my throat. Stupid old romantic what? How are David and Frances now? Both well and prospering, I hope. I am now living in Kent where I served as a police officer for many years, I am now retired and after the death of my mother, Eleanor, whom I am sure that you will remember, I find no real reason to return to Corwen. Rug is not the same, it is now a centre for alternative meat. Check this out on E-Mail.Well, I must be off, please keep in touch friend, I really miss you all. Kent is OK, if one is working which is not my case at the moment. I still long for the "Old Days" as we all do as we get older but we cannot turn that old clock back, can we? Sadly I am not in touch with Stephen any more, as we had a "fall out" some time ago, but, there's families for you. Please keep in touch Ian, it is very lonely for me at present so any contact from happier days is most welcome. God Bless, please keep in touch, Graham Green.

Graham Green from Kent, you might remember me and my brother David, we lived at Rhug from 1961-65. We had great fun together as kids.

I went to school with Harry Graves' children Philip and Barbara. We were all great friends in those days. I left the area to join the fire service in Birmingham, returning to serve in Wrexham for a few years. I then joined Kent Police and served in both uniform and then some years on Port duties in plain clothes. I am now retired from the police service and have returned to Canterbury to live. I would dearly like to hear from Phil or Barbara or indeed anyone who might remember me. I used to visit Corwen quite regularly when my late mother Eleanor Green lived in Uwch-y-Dre but since her passing. I do not get home so often, something I need to remedy. Thanks for the great site and the memories that it invoked.

Wow! My brother-in-law whose name is Harry Graves, is the player pictured as the second player (in kit), in the top row, fron the left. Harry now lives in Blacon, Chester, and is now 76. He was a Liverpool evacuee and lived in Chester before marrying a Corwen girl to live in Corwen.
Dear Harry is a great guy and anyone who remembers him would find he has never changed a bit. He was a railwayman and then worked for the Forestry at Corwen. I know he would dearly love to hear from anyone who remembers him. You can contact me if you are interested.
