Lovely photos of Caerwys, thanks. On all the census sheets, my relatives are shown as living at number 17 South Street. Does anyone know where I can obtain an old map of Caerwys please?

I went to Caerwys school from 1943 to 1950 along with my sister Ann and brother John Parrington. I remember the bad winter of 1947 and we were off school for weeks and sledging down Caerwys Hill down to Afonwen on a sledge of Pamela and Clair Jones of Afonwen. I remember Estelle Jones and Gwyneth Jones also of Afonwen. We lived opposite Sylvia and Mair Williams of Plas Isaf on the hill up to Caerwys. So many memories. Sadly my brother died 10 years ago.

I'm writing a book on traditional cottages of Wales and have come across MARY MILTWN'S cottage in Caerwys. Does anyone know if this still exists? There's a wonderful photo of it in snow taken in 1875 (!) on the 'Gathering the Jewels' website. It can be seen if you google 'Mary Miltwn' and click images.

Clifton Cottage has had the rendering removed and the tree taken out of the front garden but the gate and archway over the gate are still the same ones pictured here. Looking at this picture and the other taken from the gate makes me feel very homesick! Thank you so much for these pictures and if you have any more...

Thanks for your comments Janette. On my frequent visits to Caerwys to relive some old memories I have noticed the 'newish' house and not does just Clifton Cottage remain the same, but also Pioneer House and 'Kirkmichael' just the other side of the lost tree. Incidentally, whatever happened to The Cross Keys? The Piccadilly and The Royal Oak remain, of course.

This photo is still instantly recognisable today, even though the big tree has now gone and a newish house has taken its place. Clifton Cottage is the same.

This photo was taken in South Street and shows Clifton Cottage (formerly Rose Cottage) on the left and on the other side of the tree is Pioneer House (formerly Pioneer Stores) and on the other side of that is a large house called "Kirkmichael"
