Kinmel Bay v Prestatyn U13s
Sue Nash for Kinmel Bay
After what seemed a lifetime of a Christmas break it was now time to clear out all the un-eaten mince pies and chocolate and pull on those dusty boots.
After the frost and heavy rain of the last couple of weeks the day was perfect for a game of football, bit of a chill in the air but the sun shining through.
Game as normal when these two teams meet started off fast and furious with both teams trying to find their feet. It was initially end to end action with both Kinmel Bay and Prestatyn testing each other's keepers. Prestatyn had a number of excellent taken corners which were scrambled away on the line by Kinmel Bay.
As the game progressed Kinmel Bay started putting the pressure on and were spending more and more time in the Prestatyn half. On 22 mins Kinmel Bay finally found the break through they needed and Emily netted to make it one - nil. Their confidence now high and passing much more accurate Elen very quickly 3 mins later gave Kinmel Bay a 2 - 0 lead.
Second half - Kinmel Bay came out of the blocks the quickest to make it 3 - 0 (Emily) after just 5 mins.
Prestatyn played some excellent football with a number of runs down the right hand side passing the Kinmel Bay defender to put in a cross, which unfortunately could not be converted.
Kinmel Bay's confidence was up and their passing and control much better than previous weeks (maybe eating too much chocolate works). The last 10 mins saw a further 3 goals (2 Elen and 1 Emily), a hattrick for both of them (could be costly for the parents).
The score line appears very flattering to Kinmel Bay, but it does not reflect the excellent game of football from both teams. Congratulations to all the girls and Player of the match Emily (KB) and Mared (Prestatyn).

Colwyn Bay v Kinmel Bay U13s
Sue Nash for Kinmel Bay
As in previous matches for Colwyn Bay, they were again unfortunately not able to raise a full team - this time only having six players available - should be nine a side. Kinmel Bay arriving with a full squad were reluctant to have the unfair advantage but it was agreed that we would play seven as it was a cold morning and a number of players would have to be left on the side lines for quite a while.
From the off Colwyn Bay were always going to be chasing the game. This proved to be true. With Kinmel Bay taking just two minutes into the game for Elen Williams to score the first, although Colwyn Bay were quick to respond with a shot at the Kinmel Bay goal which was saved by Rhian. Kinmel Bay continued to turn up the pressure with Lucy hitting into the side netting on 10 minutes. Elen Williams then had a one on one with the C/B keeper who made the first of a number of excellent saves, although two minutes later Elen was able to make it 2 nil up to Kinmel Bay.
Again Kinmel Bay pushed forward with 25 minutes gone Elen was on a one on one with the keeper, who yet again made an excellent save to keep Colwyn Bay in the game. Just before half time Emily (KB) hit an excellent shot which just flew over the bar. Half Time Colwyn Bay 0 - Kinmel Bay 2.
Once again Kinmel Bay came out of the blocks quicker and three minutes into the second half Elen got her hattrick making it 3 - 0. A few changes to give those on the side lines a run out - Kinmel Bay still keeping up the pressure with shot after shot at the Colwyn Bay goal. Once again Kinmel Bay got the break through with Kate scoring her first goal of the season - in fact her first goal for three seasons - well done Kate.
Not detracting from Colwyn Bay's game which was excellent with a number of notable performances from Amy and TJ, but their keeper Sophie had an outstanding game and without her between the posts there is no doubt the score line could have been much higher.
Congratulations to both teams for an excellent game and player of the match Sophie Jones (Colwyn Bay) and Lucy Vaughan (Kinmel Bay).

Prestatyn Girls v Mostyn U11s
Ivan Nattrass
This was a fantastic game to watch with nail biting end to end action. Both teams deserve to be proud how they played with such positive attitudes. It was unfortunate that there had to be one winner and Prestatyn overcame the odds to claim their first victory of the season with fantastic goals from Rachael Lloyd (2), Rebecca (Boo) Bannister (2) and a fantastic throw from Loren Rawlinson leaving an end score of 5-4. The scorers for Mostyn, also with exceptional goals, were Sarah Ashley, Tonicha Dickens (2) and Sammy Jo Hyland. Well done to both teams. They all played with such tenacity, never letting their heads fall for even a second. Both teams made it such an exciting game to watch.

Colwyn Bay v Mold
Neil Todd for Colwyn Bay
Mold were last year's league champions so this was always going to be a tough game and it didn't disappoint. We won the toss and decided to change round and kick up hill first half. Mold kicked off and straight from that moment they came at us and it was constant pressure from them for the first 10 to 15 minutes. They were playing some excellent football but to be fair to us we were defending absolutely brilliantly and very strong in the tackle and at first Mold couldn't get through us at all.
Although Mold had a lot of possession we were playing well and my left mid player, Lowri, was having a cracking game and doing some good runs down the left and linking up well with Becky and Laura upfront. We had a few chances in the first half but Mold are an all round good team and we just couldn't get that goal we needed.
On about 30 minutes I swapped Tasha for Catherine and she played really well when she came on and was giving Mold a hard time. Also their right winger wasn't getting any change from Rhiannon my left back who was having a cracking game. So half time all square at 0-0.
We kicked off the second half and were kicking down hill but that didn't bother Mold, they started where they left off and just kept pressuring us from the kick off and if not for some good defending by Kayleigh Hobson and Hannah Mcgoona and three excellent saves and some good goal-keeping from Tavia we could have been a few down. Mold did hit the woodwork twice, but unfortunately for us their pressure paid off and on about 20 minutes from a long throw in one of their forwards flicked it on with their head and it went into the top left hand corner. 1-0 to Mold but although they kept pressuring us and had a lot of possession we were battling hard and still defending valiantly. I had fetched my new signing, Steph Dennis, on just before half time and she was playing well considering it was her first game for us, and I think we deserved a draw as we all played well against a well organised Mold side. But the final score was 1-0 to Mold. I thought we was a little unlucky today girls but never mind, well done. Congrats to Tavia for getting MOTM, well deserved.

Prestatyn v Denbigh Diamonds
Rod Roberts
for Denbigh DiamondsDenbigh suffered their first defeat of the season away to a very good Prestatyn team. In perfect weather conditions both teams played some excellent football. The Diamonds tried to play a different tactic against the good passing game of Prestatyn. The idea was to suffocate the home team by giving them no space and hit them on the break, which worked well in the first half as both teams cancelled each other out and restricted the number of chances. Steph Farley played particularly well in an unfamiliar left defensive position and Anona Davies-Smith marked Prestatyn's dangerous playmaker Deana out of the half. Possession was 50/50 but it is always more tiring closing the opposition down. 0 - 0 at half time and all to play for.
The second half got under way but Denbigh were visibly tired which allowed Prestatyn the space they needed to create chances. The first goal came on 15 minutes from a corner which Denbigh attempted to clear three times but the congested area resulted in
the ball ricocheting around until it hit Deana of Prestatyn in the face, as the ball dropped Deana volleyed it sweetly at an angle into the left corner of the net giving Tia, the keeper, no chance. 1 - 0.
Denbigh continued to compete and created some chances of their own, Bex coming closest on two occasions with long range shots. As the game got stretched Prestatyn found more space and 10 minutes from time they increased their lead when the no. 15, Alice, struck a fierce shot from 20 yards which rocketed into the top right corner. Again Denbigh's keeper had no chance. 2 - 0. Denbigh Diamonds still pressed forward looking for a consolation goal but after a real dogged display it wasn't to be on the day.

Colwyn Bay Rockets v Prestatyn
Neil Todd for Colwyn BayThis was our first home game of the season and unfortunately for us for the second time this season we only had seven players. The Prestatyn manager agreed he would play eight as he had nine players so once again we were up against it. Prestatyn kicked off and came at us straight away, we weren't really awake and if not for some good goalkeeping from our goalie, Sophie, we could have been a few down early on in the game. Prestatyn were all over us for a good while in the first half and their pressure paid off as about half way through the half they scored. It was an unfortunate goal for us as it was hit from close range and Sophie had it covered but it took a deflection off my centre back, Rachel, and sent Sophie the wrong way. We still seemed to be running round like headless chickens and just before half-time, after a big kick from their goalie, who had a cracking game, they broke through again to get their second goal of the game, so half-time 2-0 to Prestatyn.
This was definitely a game of two halves and after a stern half-time talk we started playing much better in the second half. Rachel, my centre back, was having a cracking game so too was Charlotte, my right back, who was doing some excellent surging runs from defence. Amy Hughes was playing well in midfield and coming back and helping in defence too while TJ and Eleanor were playing well upfront. In the second half Eleanor hit the post, Rachel had a great run from defence ending up with a shot that hit the post also TJ had chances and their goalie pulled off some excellent saves but we just couldn't get that elusive goal we needed. TJ did some good runs down the wing, putting the ball over into the box, but there was either no one there or our players just arrived too late.
The final score was 2-0 to Prestatyn, a much better second half girls well done. Still a few things to work on in training but we were unlucky not to get a goal in the second half. We will have them next time! Well done to Rachel Webb who got Man of the Match, fully deserved as she had an outstanding game.

Kinmel Bay v Mostyn
Sue Nash for Kinmel BayMostyn kick off - straight from the start it was fast and furious, Mostyn having the best of the early part of the game, Kinmel Bay still asleep from what can only be too late to bed the previous night.
Mostyn very quickly took control of the game with some swift passing, Kinmel Bay struggled to find their feet. With only nine minutes on the clock Mostyn very easily left the Kinmel Bay defence standing with a goal from Shannon Roberts. Was this to be the wake up call for Kinmel Bay - no! Two minutes later Laura Pennington again too easily avoided the defence to make it 2 - 0 after only 11 minutes. At this point the game could very easily have gone to double figures. Mostyn were playing very smooth controlled football, which Kinmel Bay could not react to.
20 minutes gone Kinmel Bay were very slowly coming out of their blocks - Elen Williams found herself one on one with the keeper at the edge of the box pulled back her right leg and took a shot as hard as she could. Keeper pulled off a fantastic save, only problem was she probably didn't know too much about it as it hit her straight in the face (hope she is OK). Change of keeper as she was unable to continue - this slight delay gave Kinmel Bay a chance for a quick team talk, which appeared to work. For the final 10 minutes of the first half Kinmel Bay managed to intercept some of the Mostyn passes and allow them to get back into the game. Half time 0 - 2.
Further team talk at half time. Kinmel Bay had woken up, one minute into the start of the second half Elen Williams managed to find herself behind the defence with only the keeper to beat, this time the ball went into the back of the net. Time for the game to turn around, Kinmel Bay were keeping Mostyn on the back foot, three minutes later a pass from Kinmel Bay's defence found both Kate and Elen with a chance on goal - Elen's confidence in front of goal shone through and made it 2 - 2.
It was definitely a revival by Kinmel Bay who continued to press and press, which eventually paid off with a third goal from Elen 3 - 2.
Mostyn continued to press forward, keeping Kinmel Bay's defence on the back foot for the remainder of the second half. Shot on 19 minutes from Mostyn which could have been oh so easily the equaliser, fortunately luck was with Kinmel Bay as it bounced off the cross bar.
Mostyn continued to push for the remainder of the game and were camped for the last five minutes in Kinmel Bay's half. Kinmel Bay's defence held strong and the final whistle blew. Full time Kinmel Bay 3 - Mostyn 2.
Well done to both teams for a great game. Congratulations to player of the match, Kinmel Bay - Rhian Edwards and Mostyn - Laura Pennington.

Denbigh Diamonds v Vicars Cross
Rod Roberts for Denbigh DiamondsDenbigh Diamonds got their season opener off to a good start with a point against the very good Deeside team. Denbigh were in total control in the first half but they just lacked that cutting edge up front. There was some excellent inter-play in midfield with Kathryn Jones and Paige Morris connecting well and slicing through the opposition but the final pass was intercepted all too often.
The breakthrough Denbigh deserved came in the 20th minute when, once again, some crisp passing in midfield led to a perfectly weighted pass down the centre which found Lowri Roberts running onto the ball who then poked it past the keeper from five yards out. The Diamonds continued to attack, trying desperately to get the second goal that would put clear daylight between the two teams. They came closest with one of their many corners when Bex crossed the ball in to the space created at the back of the area where Ellen James Owen connected with a thumping shot which ended up in the side netting. Vicars Cross did create some problems for Denbigh on the break with long balls over the top and some good moves down the flanks but the Diamonds back three of Ellen, Bex and player of the match, Sophie Roberts closed the opposition down well, giving them no room to play in. Half time 1 - 0 to Denbigh Diamonds.
The first 10 minutes of the second half saw Denbigh continue to press forward with numerous corners and several shots which were dealt with well by the keeper. Sophie continued to keep Vicars Cross strikers out of the game but a shrewd tactical move by the opposing manager changed the complexion of the match. The striker (sorry, name unknown) swapped from the left to right side where she saw a lot more of the ball and her strength caused problems for Ellen and Bex in defence. In the 20th minute her strong run and cross found a fellow striker in space in the box but her placed shot was well saved by Tia Frost in the Diamonds goal. The equaliser came in the 25th minute. A Denbigh corner resulted in a breakaway goal as a Vicars Cross defender's long clearance was latched onto by their big striker who then beat two defenders and lashed the ball to the right of the out coming Tia Frost. 1 - 1.
Both teams played some excellent passing football with more chances at both ends of the pitch but the goal was not breached again. Although Denbigh dominated for three quarters of the match they could be pleased with the one point and more so with the performance. With the addition of some new exciting players coming into the team, which will increase competition for places, Denbigh Diamonds are looking forward to a competitive season. We'd like to thank Denbigh High School for allowing us to hire their pitch for the season.

Prestatyn v Kinmel Bay U13
Sue Nash for Kinmel Bay
First game of the new season for both teams. Weather was perfect with sunny intervals and dry. Game kicked off with action from both ends, both teams trying to find their feet and keep the ball flowing smoothly. Delyth (Prestatyn) having a very solid game in goal saving a number of what seemed to be certain goals. Neither team could break the dead lock with the ball being moved from one end of the pitch to the other. After 26 mins Kinmel Bay found their way through and it took the swift feet of Elen (Kinmel Bay) to give them the lead. Half time (0 - 1)
Team talk at half time did the trick for Kinmel Bay. They came out of the blocks rearing to go and after one minute of play Elen completed a clinical finish to make it 0 - 2. Once again both teams pushed at both goals, Prestatyn pushing forward more and more, but Kinmel Bays defence of Laila, Molly and Hannah could not be beaten. Hannah received the ball in the Kinmel Bay half and ran the length of the pitch through Prestatyn and played the perfect pass for Emily to make it 0 - 3. Again Kinmel Bays defence remained defiant. Final score - Prestatyn 0 - 3 Kinmel Bay. Well done to both teams for an excellent game of football, congratulations to Prestatyn Player of the Match - Mared and Kinmel Bay's Elen.
