Geoff ''Vespa' Franklin - Wrexham
Following a few bands in the Wrexham area I was fortunate enough to find this site with all the local bands listed! There are so many talented guys in various bands in the area we should consider ourselves very lucky! The top bands (in my opinion) really worth seeing are 'The Misfits', 'Backtrack', 'The Swillers', 'Tobacco Road', 'Zoot Serious', 'Rain', 'Decadence'. I have seen all of these around and about in the last six months and they provide superior all round entertainment. Thanks musos, keep on rockin, pluckin and hittin them skins! Regards and respect, Geoff.

Mike Davies
One of the members of the Four Winds, Brian 'Sam' Sambrooke, lives about half a mile from me. He was with the band when Andy Scott played with them.

Ian Gough from Eryrys
I am trying to compile a history of Wrexham bands from 1960 to the present day [I played my first in Wrexham in 1963]. I appealed for info in last Monday's Evening Leader and have received by e-mail and post some useful factual information as a result and thank you to those who responded. If you played yourself or know someone who did and perhaps still does, I would be grateful to receive info about band names, what instrument members played, who they were and where from and other bands they went on to play with, the venues they played at, photos, posters etc. Please e-mail me at (the web team has my email address). Cheers, Ian Gough (a guy who hangs around with musicians!)

Movin' On ,Wrexham
We have recently heard rumours about the band Movin' On splitting up, can I tell you this is NOT true, the band have had two new members but have NEVER stopped playing. Why this sort of rubbish gets about and the people who set about starting it is sad and it is a shame they have nothing better to do with their time? The band will be rocking in all the favourite venues and we look forward to seeing all those who have given us such great support. Our new website will soon be ready and the info on this and the MySpace site will be upgraded but whatever the band Movin' On are alive and well and still keeping it live. PS the band are live this Saturday 2nd August in the Red Lion, Coedpoeth.

TOBACCO ROAD: Hi Andy - didn't get to speak to you (again)last Saturday at the Stanton. Can you tell me how you had your two amps (Marshall and Fender) wired up? I guess it was something to do with your pedal set up but we couldn't work it out? Was it in stereo?

Well if you missed the first Colwyn Bay Blues Festival you missed a top blues afternoon & evening, all day for a tenner that's right 10 quid for 8 hours of blues music! First up, Badger Bells, played to a small audience but got them tapping and was well received, PJ doing his bit. Next up a boy/girl duo from Liverpool semi-acoustic self penned bluesy numbers with one called the loop, about not being able to get on or off a loop line train in Liverpool, well received by the audience. 3rd band up and close the afternoon session Comfy Chairs, Jim, the Willie Nelson of local blues scene, making it matter with his own brand and style, Yellow Moon one of my own faves hitting it for me. To open the evening session, Slowhand Blues Band, from North Wales. When the curtain went up a six piece band set off on their journey, good clean music, sound just right, was good to see a sax in there along with a flute, which complimented a percussion section, along with 3 guitars and drums, Black Magic Woman, Little May just 2 of the songs, that the then full theatre, enjoyed and showed it when they closed the set. Next up was Usual Suspects, the two guitars seemed hell bent on out playing each other volume knobs set at +11, couldn't hear words from singer, there was a keyboard in the lineup, never got a tinkle of that playing, but they did their best, can't ask for anything more than that. To close the event Smokehouse Blues a Runcorn based band with 1950s style of west coast blues, frontman and 'harp' player belted it out to a smaller audience than previous band, had a few people rocking in their seats bass player looked like Potsy from Happy Days, he seemed to enjoy his time on stage, very entertaining thanks for that. Overall a brilliant first festival, good value for money, well supported, a little under sold outside of Colwyn Bay, but nevertheless well run in a professional way. Well done to all involved, bands, staff, organisers. On a poll of people leaving the venue at the end of the night, I asked which band had given what they came for, all said Slowhand had done it for them. This event will become a classic in north Wales, come on pubs and clubs of Colwyn Bay, get involved next year.

Sally and Jane, Gresford
Hi, I wonder if anyone could put some names to the performers at the Plough Inn, Gresford (Sunday 20 April). Not only was the music great but some hunky players too! Any details of where these band play (Wrexham/Gresford/Mold area) would be appreciated by two nutty girls who enjoy the live music scene.

Paul Donnelly, Tobacco Road
Hi Andy (Mold), I can't help you with this band but the original Kruizer came from Chester. The band was: Alan Ellis (drums / vocals), Wally Rumsey (guitar) and John Mogga Morris (bass / vocals). John, Alan and me went on to form Black Ice with Geoff Cheers as the dedicated front man / vocalist. Mogga is now with 0151, Geoff goes out as Andy Martin, Alan is a freelance drummer (can be seen at The Chester Bells Jam Night, Chester, each Thursday) and I am rhythm guitarist with Tobacco Road.

Where are Kruizza from? Saw them at the Pentan in Mold last year, what a gig, enjoyed them. I believe a guy from Northop is something to do with them.

Interested in knowing more of where local bands play regularly in the area, have seen Rain and Tobacco Road in the Seven Stars and seen a couple of live acts in the Fat Cat, what other venues are worth checking out mid week and weekends in the area? Anyone help? I always seem to find out too late when I have a spare evening to get out and I like live music if I am out, playing guitar myself, it's great to see the professionals play. I often end up treking off to Manchester or Liverpool but I am sure I probably miss a trick or two locally if only I knew where to check out.
