I remember watching from the rock bridge just off Dee View Road. The shockwave from the blast rattled through your chest.

I remember being stood on the end of my street watching the station go. Think I was about 4 at the time.

I remember that day. My brother, Gary, took me down there as a treat in his first car, a brown Austin Allegro and it was well buzzin'.

I moved up from London in l988 to live in "Dee View" on top of the Connahs Quay Hill. New to the area, I used the towers to find my way back home when I was 'touring' the area. I had always thought of the towers as Tom, Dick and Harry, and was very sad to hear they were to be demolished. I watched from the top floor of my house as the towers crumbled...it all appeared to be in slow motion. They were very beautiful...and will never be forgotten. Just wish I had taken photos.

I remember the day well. It was a Sunday and was absolutely freezing. Had to go and see those local landmarks that had always marked 'home' to me wherever I was in North Wales, brought down. Walked down the Cricket Pitch with family members, past The Old Quay House then on to the kids' playground on the opposite side of the river to the 'coolies' as we called them and waited with the hoards of other Quayites for the big bang. They came down in seconds.

I remember it well, we lived on Kelsterton Road and my husband Peter, children Steven and Adele, and myself all watched it from the roof of our garage! Now my daughter Adele and myself walk our dogs Holly and Rocco on the ex site - it's really weird.

I remember the day well, we took the kids down to the field in Mold Road where we had a good vantage point and filmed the proceedings on a video camera I borrowed off my brother for the day. I still have the video with many local faces in the crowd.

The power station was right behind our house and all the family, including the dog, had to be "evacuated" by the Police on the morning of the demolition. We were taken (along with everyone else whose homes were closest to the demolition site) to the Albion for breakfast. We then watched the demolition from Dee View Road. My dad, Peter Wilcock, filmed the whole thing from the top of St Mark's Church tower.

I went to video the demolition for some ex Deeside people who lived in the USA. I went up a little lane into the hills to get a wide "establishing" shot, and parked my car at the side of the lane out of the way. A farmer came on a tractor and demanded I move my car and threatened to "smash it up with the tractor". Obviously I couldn't reason with him, so I moved position, quickly grabbed my shots, and went down to Dee View Road for a great view of events.

I remember not going to bed after a night shift! Me and my dad went down and stood on the railway bridge in Dee View Road. I took my camcorder with me and got some spectacular footage, you can even see the flash of the detonator just before the explosion! It was quite emotional I remember thinking!

I have seen a copy of a video of the demolition, as filmed by Peter Willcock (the former cinema projectionist at all of the Deeside picture houses) from the top of St Mark's church. Peter still has the original. I wonder if Bernie, (who I remember from school!) still has his copy?

I was sad to have missed the event, having spent many hours as a youngster playing around the towers, fishing for the huge eels in the warm water at their base, playing football on the (private) pitch alongside, and camping out down near the pumphouse. Happy days, and the sun always shone.

I work at the new power station and also spent a few years at the old one as an apprentice. If you want any information on the original Connah's Quay power station, have a look at my site at incebps.org.uk and click on 'links'. You will find that I've scanned two CQ handbooks (1954 & 1973) and posted them on the 'net for all to enjoy!

I love the new towers, I've videoed them. They're lovely, but I liked the old ones.

Rememember it very well, still have a few pictures of it happening. The huge white triangle where they stood is still visible on satellite photos, see it on flash earth! There was a way into one of the cooling towers when they were disused!

I love the new towers - they're great

We lived in Lon Celyn and watched from my bedroom window. For some reason I'm thinking it was done on a Sunday. We took photos too, but it happened so fast there was only a 'before' and 'after' shot.

I watched it in the Halfway car park. I remember people who lived in Dee View having their windows put through by flying bricks.

Andrew Lawrence, C/Quay
I lived in Connah's Quay for 28 years before moving to Lancashire and I remember the power station very well. And I was in the tree park with my Dad when they blew the towers down. It took time to get used to not seeing them by the Dee, shame. Happy days.

I remember watching the cooling towers coming down. I watched it from Dee View Road which was quite close and I recorded it on my camcorder. Somebody mentioned a day off school, but my recollection is that it happened at a week-end, as I wouldn't have taken a day off work especially for this event. I can remember as a child watching the men scale the outside of the towers on fixed ladders, thinking that they were very, very brave.

Jo from the Quay
My dad worked as a welder at the quay power station for many years. We lived opposite the towers and our view through the living room window were the towers. We were very sad to see the towers come down as there was a lot of history and storytelling from my dad about where he worked. Also when the towers came down it left a huge crack on our living room window.

I grew up in Dee View Road, CQ and had MANY happy memories of playing near the old power station. Behind the station on the banks of the Dee was the haunt of many young teens doing things they shouldn't!!!

Remember it well, stood on the balcony at Birch Court and the dust took ages to settle. Anyone else remember the day off from Golftyn CP to watch it?

I've lived in the shadow of the old power station all my life. The day the cooling towers were demolished, I actually videoed the event from the roof of the Old No2 EZ department in Shotton Steelworks, a few of us had gotten permission to be there so I took the opportunity to film it, it was quite a spectacular event.

i was working in the old cold strip mill the day the towers came down , we had to stop rolling in case the mill was affected by the vibrations from the blast, so we all got to go out into the old coil yard and watch, and yeah your right steve the food in the canteen after was great ,

We remember this day very well, our eldest child was learning how to ride a bike when it happened and as they blew he fell off and hurt his knee! That day was unforgettable xx

I remember the day, I stood on the playing fields by the red hall. Will always remember the towers coming down.

My father worked there from day one, he was in the gate house until the offices were built then he moved to the time office. I used to go with him to the gate house from time to time, I saw it being built from the ground up. I started work there in 1961 at the age of 18 and stayed to the very end. I was transferred to Transmission side as it was known then which was just across the way and stayed in the industry for the 42 years, I must add the station days were the best, sad day when it closed.

I remember passing them on the way to Towyn and often thinking it looked awful, always wanted to move to Wales from Warrington, but not near Connah's Quay as it always resembled Warrington in Wales with the power station (like Fiddler's Ferry). Maybe now that it's gone I might re-consider.

Remember taking a lorry load of 'dant' (slurry from the washer) from Llay colliery to C/Quay power station. By the time I reached C/Quay the load had settled into an almost solid block in the body of the lorry. Tipped up, nothing came out, front wheels came off the ground, back end of lorry on the floor. Ended up having to beg Chaside (J.C.B. type machine) driver to dig the load out for me. All in a day's work???

Despite being only 4 years old when the towers were demolished in 1993, I remember this occasion well. I was stood on what was then the playing field of Deeside College and my mum took photos very similar to the ones above. We drove along the main road shortly after the demolition and there was nothing but dust everywhere. Interestingly enough, the bases of the tower supports still remain in the field where they once stood.

I was over the other side of the river that morning, near to the little girl that won the competition to press the button, (as I was an apprentice at the steelworks at the time and blagged my way onto our jetty), the main thing I remember was the shockwave and the huge breakfast in our canteen after.

Will Davies (Harry), Prestatyn
I used to go to college at Kelsterton College, just up the road. Many a lunchtime was spent staggering out of the Halfway House pub, opposite the power station, and the first thing you'd clap eyes on were the cooling towers. What on earth will the students look at now? It's a travesty.
Mon May 22 10:52:51 2006

Peter Metcalfe, Flint
I was there to witness that historic event and have photos of it coming down. I also have it on video.
