Re Wendy's proposed visit in June (and anybody else who's interested!). Last year we installed a historical frieze in Ysceifiog Village Hall with hundreds of photos, images and stories covering 3,000 years of the area's history. If you wish to visit please contact me for access to the hall.

Although the Kendricks are not my blood relatives Charles Kendrick born 1864 in Buckley married my great grandmother Alice Horne of Salisbury. In June I plan to visit Ysceifiog and other villages in the area where the family lived according to census records. My comments on this site in August last year resulted in a 'third cousin' contacting me with lots of information about her side of the same family so sites like this one are worth their weight in gold. Hopefully I will soon have my own wonderful photos of the area.

I grew up and lived in Pant-y-Blodau in Ysceifiog. My mum used to walk my brother and me through the woods, beautiful in the spring covered in bluebells! And don't forget those peacocks. I also used to work in the fisheries in 1985 the Haymer family had it then, Nannerch scool was the nearest school in the 1970s then.

Beautiful photos and such a wonderful reminder of my childhood in Lixwm. I seem also to have found a relative (Wendy from Wiltshire) as Edward and Phoebe Kendrick were also my great, great grandparents!

I grew up in Afonwen. I left when I was 18 to go to University in Liverpool, then off for a PhD in London. From there to Canada for a Postdoc and now living in the United States. Looking at these pictures brought back great memories. I try to get "home" once a year. My sister still lives in Afonwen and my mother lives in Caerwys.

From my grandfather's old papers he has our family living at Groesffordd, Isgeifigg Parish, Flintshire, Wales about 1743-1880. Has anyone info on this farm? I did see a story mention on this site, Fleeing to Safety. On 1 June 1941 bombs fell in Babell, Lixwm and Ysceifiog. Three fell in a field at Groesffordd Farm between Lixwm and Ysceifiog, damaging buildings. I believe this may be my ancestor's home. I would love to hear more about my ancestor's home and if there's Edwards still living in this area.

I have discovered via the 1841 census that my great, great grandparents Edward and Phoebe Kendrick lived at Lixwm, Ysceifiog, so I was delighted to find these photos when trawling the net for information about the area. I feel I must visit.

My mother lived in Afonwen in the 1930s at 2 Railway Terrace I have wondered if the property is still there. She worked in a hat shop in Caerwys during that time, her name was Gladys Lovelock Davies nee Foulkes.

About 20 years ago I used to go trout fishing at Ysceifiog (I think it was called Cwmbrian Fishery). Can anybody tell me if it is still a trout fishery please. I remember driving up a narrow path past a small holding ponds up to hotel and listening to the peacocks.

Afonwen is no longer in the parish of Ysceifiog, it is part of the parish of Caerwys. I don't know when the boundaries changed but it's been so for many years now. My mother used to live in Afonwen when it was part of the parish of Ysceifiog.

I am Ray Jones' sister. I have just found these photos. I spent many hours boating on the lake, walking through the woods, it was a lovely place to live. I also helped my Dad breed the trout, which were put in a type of milk churn and taken to Anglesey to other fisheries. It was a very interesting place to live. Well done to Bevan for the photos.

The photo of the village school in Ysceifiog reminds me of 1939 when I came to live at Cae Gwyn. We used to walk about 1 mile to school. What happy days! I have a group photo of all the children and teachers outside the school - taken 1n 1940.Although now living in Bedford, I still visit Ysceifiog and re-live my childhood.

Great photos, my family lived in the Fisheries in the early 50's. I was serving in the forces but can recall many hours boating on the lake. The postal address was Afon Wen, Caerwys in those days. Thank you for renewing memories

Lovley pictures. I have always wanted to see the fisheries as I missed a local ramble there once. Thank you for sharing them with us. Just one point, is the fisheries Ysceifiog rather than Afonwen? Again many thanks, please send more photos, they are lovely.
