Retired in 2004, married a woman from Wrexham, and live now in Gresford where she has lived for over 25 years - a lovely place with lovely people. I wouldn't go back to London for a gold watch!

I have travelled to Gresford, Wales, twice '87 & '94. Had a great time at the Griffen with Jean and the Yew Tree with Billy and Joan. Met Merv and Linda Hughes. They came to see us in OZ '02. Great people, great town. Hope to return one day.

I preferred Gresford before the bypass was built and when you could catch the train at Gresford station. I could easily walk to Gresford then. There's a tranquil spot before you get to the Griffin Hill, by the old cottage, where there were pine trees and over a high wall, the river, where the fish always seemed to jump. My favourite places are the Flash and All Saints' Church now.

I have lived here for the past year and I think Gresford and Marford are the best villages in Wrexham, I like the fact that there are no or very few chavs about and the people are very much that little more upper class than anywhere else, beautiful friendly place.

Does anyone know anything about a Gresford and District Football Association one hundred years ago? Was there one?

Hi Bill. I know a Pamela Challenor. Don't know if it's the same one though?

I spent a great deal of time in Gresford when I was a child, at the home of my grandmother May Arkinstall in Poplar Avenue. Memories include a parade through the village followed by a fete on the sportsfield. This housed a traditional play park then, with a huge slide and a witch's hat swing. I had various relatives in the village; my great uncle Bob Jarvis lived in the long row at Newtown until the early eighties, when he moved to the pensioner's bungalows on Chester Road. He had been a quarry worker until his retirement and was a keen and talented bowler. He also rang the church bells in his younger days. His brother Jack lived across the road in Newtown. Gresford was always a pleasant village. The shops were varied, including the ones down High Street which are now turned into houses, and Miss Woods chemist which still bears the traditional pestle and mortar above the door for those people unable to read! There was a little hairdresser called Valerie's behind the house opposite the Narrow Lane. In those days Crump's engineering reared high over the area, no houses then. I can still recall the echo of our feet bouncing off the walls of Narrow Lane after we alighted the green double decker bus (always the upstairs front seat) and ran to Nana's house. We often visited the cemetery with flowers for the family graves, and called for chips at the Church chippy. One day I was mortified when my nana knocked on her friend's door on the way home and asked her for some salt and vinegar because they had forgotten to put any on! I was married at Gresford Church in 1981 in the family tradition and still spend time with my aunt and uncle in the village.

I recently discovered the gorgous village of Marford when detouring to Wrexham. I was in awe of the beautiful white houses and public house. Their white curved walls and church like windows were fascinating. I have searched websites to look find its origins. I'm interested to know who built them, where was the inspiration for their design, were they built for a mining community? I tell everyone I know about its unique beauty and recommend they visit. I only wish I could tell them its history too.

Been to Gresford a lot when I was younger as family came from there but lost touch with all. Family names are Parry and Brown. Are there any of you still there?
