Polish food

Monika

Last updated: 05 March 2007

Monika Czaja and her partner Wojciech Bogucki run a shop selling food from Poland in Wrexham...

Where are you from?
I am from Gdansk and Wojciech is from Gliwice in Poland.

Tell us about your favourite Polish food
Poland's national dish is Bigos - hunter's stew. Soups are very popular in Poland, including Beetroot Soup which is traditionally eaten at Christmas. I also enjoy Sour Cucumber Soup and dumplings.

Your recipe
Kapusniak (Sauerkraut Soup)
20g butter
150g sauerkraut
4 spare ribs
1 onion
1 bay leaf

Fry the spare ribs in the butter. Add about a litre of water and cook all the other ingredients until the sauerkraut softens. Season to taste and serve.

What British food do you like?
None! I especially don't like British bread!
