Buckley Jubilee: 80 years' service

Arthur Messham has taken part in the annual Buckley Jubilee, a parade around the town, for more than 80 years. Here, he tells his story as part of a film project called Then & Now.

Transcript: speech marks This photograph here now... I was a young fella, pre-war days, so that's going back the 1930s. Oh, I'm wearing a sports coat, and, if there's anybody that looks at this that remembers the Oxford bags, I'm wearing those - 26 inch bottoms!

It's a proud thing to be a marshall at the jubilee. You walked at the side to see that the procession marched in proper order and that there was no interference. I've been in the jubilee now for over 80 years. First of all, I remember going on the lorry as a young lad. I've enjoyed every minute of it. I've tried to do various jobs for the committee.

I'm very proud to walk in it. I shall be there walking this time, God willing, and I hope for a good many years. speech marks
