Geraint Morgans was the first to get in touch as his ancestor, Morgan Morgans, ran the former Alyn Tinplate Works [now the Synthite factory site] with David Williams, whose family lived for a short time at the former Bromfield Hall.
Geraint, who shares some of these photos and paintings [above], tells us that the hall, demolished in 1965, now the site of homes on The Firs, Cambrian Close and Llys-y-Coed, was renovated in the 1870s to accommodate an ornate staircase down which Lady Jane Grey walked to her execution in 1554.
The staircase was bought at auction by previous owners of Bromfield Hall in the late 19th Century and during that time ithe home even had an outside pool.
Geraint's great grandfather, David Williams, bought the home when he became a partner in the nearby Alyn Tinplate Works along with Geraint's great grandfather, Morgan Morgans. [Both men married sisters].
David Williams lived at Bromfield for three years up until his death in 1895. He commissioned a painting which features in the slideshow [above].
Geraint says that from the Williams family, the hall passed to FB Summers, of "Shotton Ironworks" that was to become the Shotton Steelworks we know today.
Today, the lodge is all that remains of Bromfield Hall, situated on the Nercwys road junction of Wrexham Road.

I live on the grounds of the hall, Llys-y-Nant, just off the firs for over 2 years now, and there has been some strange things happening at my property. There is a familly picture up above, and the little girl bottom row, is the same girl my daughter describes, who has been seen at the bottom of her bed. Also, up and down our staircase and dining room there have been noises which cannot be explained. Also, we have heard a man and lady shouting down our stairs, "are you alright"? Can anyone explain this or heard of any stories of spirits on this ground?

Although a native of Mold, son of a local farmer ("leased from Mr Burroughs"), Peter Roberts spent his working life in the drapery business in Lancashire, and his children were born there. The rubber heels factory (also bus tyres and briefly golf balls) was at Leyland, and was sold to Michelin in 1916. For Terry Roberts: Peter had a son Henry who died in S. Africa without issue, and one brother Jesse who had a daughter. So unless your grandfather Henry John Roberts was Peter Allnutt's Uncle Henry I think any connection would have to be sought further back.Is there anything to suggest that Peter Roberts's second wife, his cousin Mary Williams, born at Mold, could be related to David Williams of the tinplate works?

For Terry Roberts: I believe your grandmother was also known as 'Lila'. If so, I have some pictures of her. I would be interested to know if her husband Henry John was related to Peter Roberts who donated the Mold Town Hall.

For Geraint Morgans: I have been researching my family tree for some time. My grandmother was Elizabeth Williams (married Henry John Roberts). The Roberts, Morgans and Williams families were prominent in the affairs of Mold for a very long time. Let me know if you'd like to exchange information - I've gathered up quite o few photos over the last few years.

Re. Geraint Morgans contribution, I would like to add that David Williams was also my Great Grandfather and my Mum's Grandfather. Mum and I have been trying to work out who your parents were and wondered whether, as you have Morgan Morgans & David Williams as G.Grandparents, whether Maud and William Morgan Williams were your G.parents? As there were only two children who survived, Violet, who didn't marry and Leslie, we wondered if Leslie might be your father? Would love to hear from you and perhaps share some mutually relevant family history.

David & Peter, you are both correct and he was responsible for the building of the Town Hall in Earl Road. Amongst his business enterprises was the patented manufacture of a rotatable heel for shoes. This could be rotated when the heel in one place became worn.

Peter Roberts was my wife's great grandfather. His son Robert married Winifred Apedaile, but died young in 1905. Their daughter Viola remembered Christmases at Bromfield Hall. Peter Roberts' second wife was a Mary Williams; our understanding is that he acquired the Hall in 1907, and also that he paid for the Town Hall (there is a plaque to this effect by the entrance).

Peter Allnutt
We believe that our great grandfather Peter Roberts (gave?paid for) the Town Hall to Mold. The house was sold in the mid 60s and a housing estate has since been built on the site.
