I stumbled on this site and found questions from Meg Roberts in Denbigh, Katrina Lamb in York and Diane Kavanagh in Sydney about the song that's called either "The Shepherdess' Rendezvous" or simply "Rendezvous". I've written out the lyrics as I recall them from my mother singing them, and I'd be happy to update them with the other writers.

Things to do: There is a new Musical Theatre Group for 16+. Thursdays 7.30 - 8.30pm, at Janes Studios, Ruthin Rd, Denbigh. Really good fun. First production will be Boogie Nights The Musical (not the film!). Janes Studios also has many other dance classes / excercise classes for all ages, and for really young children there are Stagecoach classes as well.

In terms of giving the young people something to do (as suggested by Sammi and Kendal), I was considering getting the alternative community together. The scene is considerably lacking in this town. For those of us who are into goth-rock, darkwave, deathrock etc, if you would like to see a few nights a week where we could meet or possibly a goth night or two within the town then you are more than welcome to contact me via the webteam. Hopefully, we can introduce a few of the less informed people to bands such as Bauhaus, Siouxie and the Banshees etc.

The countryside in North East Wales is beautiful and a pleasure to be in but it seems to get harder and harder to walk around there nowadays. Away from the Clywdian range there are so many obstacles to deter walkers which are deliberately manufactured. East of Bylchau there are paths in both Denbighshire and Conway which have the following: Footpath signs taken down and replaced by other signs that say only farm access allowed, rotting and dangerous gates wrapped in barbed wire unable to pass, paths that have been blocked either by large hedge cuttings or overgrown hedges, the odd bull in a field the footpath is in and many more. Walking on the roads is no better with dogs allowed to run free from their owner's property, some are fine but some have owners who cannot control them especially and when there are 6 or 7 dogs. I have been bitten twice recently. It is really sad that this is happening.

I go to a mother and toddler group, up in Capel Seion every Friday and I think the amount of dog fouling on the street is absolutely disgusting. The amount of times that we have to dodge it is disgusting. People should be made aware of the dangers of toxicara. More often than not, people do not allow their dogs to foul near their houses so I don't see why it should be ok for their dogs to do their business near where our children play.

Message for Chris Emmanuel. I believe that I used to have my hair cut by your grandfather. Only trouble is I remember his shop being in Bridge Street, below Buller's (later Mather's) shop - probably my memory playing tricks. I was at school at the same time as Pauline; was she your sister? Seem to think she became a midwife or district nurse in Wrexham. Once again put it down to the passage of time if I have got it wrong.

Message for Chris Emmanuel who placed a note earlier in the year. I had my hair cut at the hairdresser at the bottom of Love Lane when I was a lad in the '40s and '50s. One of the hall porters at the hospital (Denbigh 7) was named Emmanuel. He was a fair haired man in his 40s who had only one arm/hand. He might have lost it in WW2. Really nice fellow too.

I'd like to thank Robert for a super photo of Denbigh Castle. I e-mailed it to a friend who lives in Denbigh, but who was staying with relatives in Namibia. She was delighted with it and has placed it on her desktop; I have copied her and done the same. It's lovely to see, such a wonderful view each time I switch on the laptop. I hope you'll be able to pass on this note of appreciation to the photographer.

As a child, circa 1955, I was taken to see the statue of Dr. Evan Pierce b1808 and told he was a relation. My great great grandfather, Edward Pierce, b1812 married (in Liverpool) Margaret Jones b1814, both from Denbigh, but I cannot find a link to the Doctor. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Reply to Meg Roberts of Denbigh; Hi, you asked if Monica Kranzel was the Monica Williams who worked in the firelighter factory in Denbigh in the 1960s. Yes, it is, I am her brother David who also worked there.

Here is a debate. I was watching ‘Wales Today’ on BBC 1 (March 18 2008) which featured an excellent report about promoting tourism in Dolgellau. It made me quite jealous of Dolgellau and wonder if folk in Denbigh would benefit from a similar thing. I expect business in Denbigh would like it; some may only survive because of it. With money getting tight people will start looking at different UK holidays in the next few years. I wonder if Denbigh has the courage to embrace tourism and the money that comes with it.

When I was young we had a youth club in Lenten Pool. I also used to be in the theatre group and choir at St Mary's Church. I have very fond memories and I was never cheeky. Children have the right to learn good from bad but it might help if they were helped to find something to do.

I would like to hear from Katrina Lamb from York, who wrote about an old song beginning: "In a quaint old cottage garden stood a shepherdess of marble stone." I remember the beginning as: "In a quaint old English garden", but could be wrong. It finishes with: "And the gardener on the morrow passes by and never knows, the little shepherd now is holding fast the shepherdess's marble rose." My mother sang it to us as children.

Where were Pigott Villas, Denbigh? My forebears lived there in the late 19th century but I cannot find any sign of it now.

Response re the hunting lodge on Denbigh Moors. There was indeed a hunting lodge but it was always known as Plas Pren which means wooden mansion. The later brick built lodge was built on the ruin of one originally built from wood allegedly made from timber taken from a shipwreck off Llandudno.

Wales' oldest timbered town house, set in the scenic Vale of Clwyd, is to feature in S4C's Y Ty Cymreig programme, which explores houses of historic significance across Wales. Nantclwyd y Dre is a timber-framed house in Castle Street, Ruthin, with the earliest part of the building built in 1435 or 1436. Its ownership can be traced from that date in the fine series of court rolls of the lordship of Ruthin or Dyffryn Clwyd in the National Archives. The townhouse is one of five fascinating houses explored in a programme which focuses on homes in the county of Denbighshire. Y Ty Cymreig is broadcast on S4C on Wednesday, 6 February at 8.25pm, English subtitles available. The programme is repeated, with on-screen English subtitles on Sunday, 10 February.

Does anyone know of local violin teacher? My wife has had some basic classical lessons but is now very keen on playing folk style. She is a diligent practiser when child-care allows. Thanks in anticipation, Martin.

Did Meg Roberts, Denbigh ever find those lyrics? I have also been searching for them. I believe it starts "In a quaint old cottage garden stood a shepherdess of marble stone, *** stood a little shepherd all alone".

My grandfather, Evan William Pierce, once told me that he worked as a stable boy for his uncle, Dr Evan Pierce. 1891 census shows Catherine (Kate) Williams as a parlour maid in the Dr's household, my grandmother. Am trying to link my great-grandfather Edward Pierce to the Dr. Maybe Roy Pierce from Ewloe can help or any others. Am wishing to contact Bobby Owen, can anyone assist?

The old print works in Denbigh, where Thomas Gee worked and is a historical building, is subject to an application to being turned in to a block of flats. A group, led by Mrs Greenhalgh of Rowen, is campaigning to turn it in to a Centre for the Written Word. Apart from Kate Roberts, Denbigh has many connections with writers, including H.M. Stanley and Gerard Manley Hopkins.

Why is everyone always moaning on about children living in Denbigh? There are innocent ones you know! It really drives us mad that poeple are always labelling us as trouble makers! Stop dissing us innocent kids and if you're that bothered about the bad ones do something to entertain them instead of moaning about us!

Arwel Roberts - Congleton. Ee bye gum, I thought you were dead! You're right about all that 'hot air' in Denbigh though. Nice to see you're still giving the local boys in Denbigh and Henllan lots of stick. Are you in touch with any of our school chums still? I've not been back since joining the Navy all those years ago.
