My grandfather, Thomas John Edwards, who lived with my grandmother at Glen Cottage on Higher Common (born 1902) was a bricklayer and worked all over the UK and Ireland. He lived as a child on Daisy Hill and had (about) 12 siblings. I am sure he told me that one of his brothers (not sure if 'Leonard' Edwards) built the tall chimney near to Lane End? It would be great to see a picture of my grandfather or any of his brothers. I am not sure if I recall my grandmother mentioning a Mrs Hayes. Can you tell me where she lived as it may bring back a memory? My grandmother, Mary Edwards nee Fennah, was a regular church attender at St Matthews Church.

The photo - 1930 from James Bentley collection features a group of chaps at Hancocks Brickworks building the square chimney. The chap 2nd from the left, do you know who he may be please? He looks like my uncle Edward Williams! How amazing this would be seeing we left UK in 1955. Thank you.

My great grandfather, Thomas Hayes, lived at Smelt Yard, Buckley, in the 1870s. His occupation was Engine Driver Stationary. My grandfather, Thomas John Hayes, was variously shown as Tilemaker, Builder and Contractor. Does anybody in Buckley remember the Hayes family?

As a lad (around 1953) we used to chat to the drivers on the old "Buckley line" down near to the Old Quay House pub in Connah's Quay docks, trying to get a ride on their engine. The line used to run west from there, underneath the main road (about halfway down the Shotton side of the Quay Hill) and then up towards the top of Mold Road to near a building we knew as "the Roundhouse". From there it went up past Bluebell Wood and on to Buckley. Despite many requests, I never did manage to cadge a ride on the footplate! The whole line closed down not long after. By the way, there was also some form of sanitorium north of the Roundhouse but that disappeared long ago too.

Does anyone know who the second man to the left is? He looks very much like my grandfather who also built the prison on the Isle of Wight.

My great great grandfather, John Hayes (died 1908) was described variously as a brickmaker/tilemaker in differing official documents. He lived at The Common Buckley. Can anyone tell me if the brick/tile works he worked at could have been Belmont Brickworks (as shown in one of your photographs) Thank you.

My Gr-Uncle, Edward Henry Taylor was born on 17 Mar 1866 and living as a child on Nant Mawr Rd to perhaps 1869. His father had the same name (B; Abt Jan 1847 in England, Lancashire, Manchester) and worked in some mine nearby. He came to the USA about 1881.
I would deeply appreciate having a pen-pal from the Buckley area. I'd like to learn more about the NE Wales people and culture. Perhaps a pen-pal needs help finding relatives in the USA?
Thank You, Charlie.
