Talacre Dunes

Talacre Dunes Fly over the dunes

Watch a 15 second flight to get an idea of the size and length of the dunes, see the caravan park to the right and the mouth of the Dee Estuary in the distance.

By day, the dunes of Talacre, (SJ123848) a SSSI, are a favourite hot spot for sun-loving holiday makers. By night, home to one of Wales' rarest creatures. At one time, sand-loving natterjack toads were found along the sand dunes of the north Wales coast as far as Anglesey. But today they are limited to this one small site at Talacre near the Dee Estuary. Natterjacks became extinct in Wales during the 1960s, because of the development of caravan parks. But the species was reintroduced to the dunes five years ago.
