Manuel Pardo: "I worked in the Hotel Marina, Marine Drive, 31 years ago, I have a good remembrance of that time. I am sending a photo of the hotel taken in November 1972. I would like to know anything about it. Does the hotel still exist? I would like to go to Rhyl again on a visit."
Lisa Leece from Rhyl: "The Marina Hotel, East Parade, is currently going through redevelopment into quality apartments. More information can be obtained from the Developers, Haigh Properties, a local firm who have made other major development contributions to the Rhyl Promenade area."
Jo from Rhyl: "The Hotel Marina has been partly knocked down and is undergoing major refurbishment at the moment, to convert it into luxury apartments."
Mark from Rhyl: "The hotel is still there but not for much longer. Everything that belonged to the hotel was auctioned off and I believe the hotel is going to be, of all things, yet more flats. There is now no good big sized hotel in Rhyl!"

In 1994 Rory Gallagher, the famous Irish blues guitarist, played his last full concert at the hotel (in Britain). Before he died someone videoed the concert. Does anyone know where that film is now? That night was one of the best nights - the atmosphere was amazing. No one realised it would be the last time we would see the great man.

It is a pity there is not a big hotel in Rhyl now. I remember when I worked there, the hotel had many customers (tourists and local people). Very noticeable were the private dinner parties which were held in The Ballroom, a building of the Hotel Marine where up to 325 people could be accommodated for banqueting.

Apartments / flats like these are the best thing to happen to Rhyl. They are well maintained and the tenants are vetted. If you have been along Rhyl promenade recently (East and West), you will notice that it is looking much smarter. What we need in Rhyl are less Housing Association properties and more 'vetted' housing.

I beg your pardon we need more flats in Rhyl. Our town has been completely ruined by outsiders coming into Rhyl to live. The Marina hotel, was a lovely hotel to stay in. There is no place to have a drink or a coffee, around that part of Rhyl now. Years ago Rhyl was a cultured Welsh town with lovely shops, and classical concerts at the pavilion theatre.

While i agree with Dave from Rhyl about the Hotel Marina's slide to its delapidated state was sad, the last thing and i mean the very last thing we need in Rhyl is more flats, the west end is bad enough, don't inflict the same fate on the east end

The hotel has been tastefully transformed from the white painted eyesore it was into a Luxury Apartment Development returning the external facade of the building to its original form. It is not to be confused with the "Apartments" rented out by a Local Housing Association - Haigh Developments care about who they rent to.

The Marina Hotel was in a pretty shabby state in recent times, and the amount that would have been required to refurbish it to a decent standard would have been crippling. The development of the building into flats, while sad, was the only alternative to levelling the place. And let's face it, we need more flats in Rhyl...
