How Chambers Lane, Mynydd Isa, got its name
Q: Wills from Mynydd Isa: "I live on Chambers Lane, Mynydd Isa, in an old converted cottage. The cottage used to be known as Tyddyn Chambers (until sometime in the 80s). I believe that a chap called Edward Chambers used to live there sometime in the 1800s. I think that he was a farmhand and that Chambers Lane was actually named after him. Does anyone know any more about him? Also, I have a map of the Argoed area from 1610 and my house is on that map, does anyone know anything about the history of my house?"

Your understanding of the naming of Chambers Lane is very interesting. I am interested in the dates when the cottages on Chambers Lane were built. Would you be able to send me a copy of the 1610 map or at least let me know how to go about obtaining a copy? I will obviously reimburse you for any cost incurred. I wonder if Mynydd Isa has a history group which would be interesting to attend.

Hi Wills. I remember reading somewhere that Tyddyn Chambers used to be a local brothel some time in the 18th century, but it got closed down.
