Camera phone capture

Last updated: 12 October 2007

Sian captured an image on her mobile phone camera while travelling along the A55. Initially she thought it could be a UFO but her father has since been in touch.

The photos were taken with my mobile phone whilst travelling in the back of my parents' car. We were between Rhuallt Hill and Halkyn on the A55 travelling east. I was pointing the cameraphone in a southerly direction towards the sun. I was taking the pictures to try my new phone out, which I had for Christmas, and could not see the object in the sky with my naked eye because the sun was too bright. There was no dirt on the car window.

How many more people are going to say it's a camera overload with the ccd chip? Her father said they confirmed it - so move on.

This isn't a ufo. I believe there are others in the galaxy but this isn't a photo of them. To all you people just saying 'YES, I BELIEVE YOU', she wasn't saying no one believed her or telling you this was a ufo she was asking if the sun could have pollarised her camera in this way and the answer is YES!

As stated by various posters it is the sun overloading the CCD...

It is the camera! It uses something called a ccd chip which is ultra sensitive to light, while wrongly trying the same shot on a cheap webcam I was left with a scarred chip putting pink streaks on the computer screen, so be careful when taking shots of the sun. It's the same as looking at the sun with your eyes.

I think that is true. I have seen a purple light in theesky but I did not have a camera so I was unlucky but I believe you.

I took a pic of the sun and some clouds, it looks pretty cool, use it as my screensaver, good effect! T, Dewsbury

Yes, definitely the sun. I have a couple of pics of the sun and they too look like black dots.

Its just a poor camera phone. Video cameras do it to stop the intensity of light burning out your camera. I have seen a ufo in feb 94 during a wind storm. It was that fast it made a trail of purple and green light linger under a cloud for a good 10 seconds

Brother took a picture the same with his phone. It's the sun. Goes black when you take a picture of it.

That image is something to do with the technology of the phone. Sorry but this is too obvious. If you took a photo of the sun and you are not sure if its a UFO or not then where is the sun that you taken the picture of? I have taken a picture of the sun many a times and its had the same affect on my images. Black with purple round it mine was round but don't forget there are clouds in the sky that take any shape over the sun. I'm no camera expert but its definitely something to do with the technology of the phone and its no UFO.

What a load of rubbish! UFOs - yes I do believe there is possibly something out there but how could you even question if that is what the picture shows! It is obviously the sun! Jeez - some people these days!

It is true about UFOs I once saw one near my house flying straight over us, it was amazing how cool and bright it was.

Yes definitely a trick of the Camera IMO. I noticed a similar effect myself on the view screen of my camera when I was trying to take a picture which included the sun. In my camera's case it did actually take a perfectly good picture. But I've certainly seen this digital overload effect, and given that mobile phone camera's though fun are not usually of the highest quality it certainly looks like digital overload to me.

I agree with Gunter, i have a photo that reproduces this effect, the ccd overloads and produces a black sun with a purple outline. being an amatuer astrophotographer i have come across this problem time and time again. this is nothing but a fault in our own technology. copy of my photo are available for reference thanks

We took another picture of the sun in Caernarfon recently and we think Gunter and Mike are probably right. It seems to be a trick with the camera itself. Sorry guys, there may be something out there but this ain't one of them.

I do a lot of photography and I think this is just a shot of the sun where the bright centre has turned dark because of too much light over exposing the CCD (Charged Couple Devise) in the camera! I must say I did quite a bit of investigating in Africa and I have to admit there is something visiting this world alien or otherwise!!! Just could not get enough physical proof!

I think Sian has been very lucky to see a UFO!

these are definitely aliens. as you can see they are transporting through a black hole which simply means they have just got done looking around and are going home. they activated a black hole so they could travel through the 4th dimension at 16 times the speed of light. going that fast they could get any where they needed to go quickly and it explains why they were invisible to the naked eye. great specimen of a blakolumus alien species.

Sorry to say this but i think the picture taken with the mobile phone is all to do with the shutter speed on the lens in the phone i am sure i have heard of this happening not too long ago during the summer last year the photo taken was given to an expert and he confirmed it was the shutter speed i could be wrong perhaps there is a camera expert out there who could help
