Witness drawing of Deeside UFO

Last updated: 14 November 2008

Two taxi drivers claim to have seen a diamond-shaped craft over the River Dee at Flint and a security guard called the object a flying "sting-ray" when he saw it from nearby Deeside.
From the files of ufologist Margaret Fry

The cabbies made the sightings at separate locations and times on the evening of March 5 1986. The first, at 8.40pm, was said to be over the Dee somewhere near Shotton when the driver saw a dark diamond-shaped UFO flanked by separate green lights and flanked further by several independent arcs of white light.

Dee Estuary, Flint, looking towards Flintshire Bridge The man said that he watched as the lights flashed from green to white. (An impression of the craft is seen top) At 11.20pm, the second sighting was made and contained similar details.

Neither men's accounts were detailed as both were not interested in assisting further the Welsh Federation of Independent Ufologists.

However, in October 1989, a mobile security guard witnessed a remarkable sight with a colleague. This is his account written on an investigation form:

"I was guarding a building site when I saw - coming towards me - an object in the sky which veered to the right of me. I shone my torch at it and it then altered course and came straight at me. I then ran towards my friend - away from the object - and I shouted at him to look. It then turned sideways and flew in a straight line veering to our left. It hovered in the distance, flew up, down, circled, then it flew away into the distance. We then walked away to do our patrol, but still looking up. Then at 5.50am (20 minutes later) we noticed a bright vapour above us - like an aeroplane's but much longer, and we realised that the object must have gone above us without us hearing it. My friend had gone home when, at 6.10am, I was sitting in my car and noticed an object on my left come out of the clouds with its lights on. I then flashed my main beam car lights, and it vanished. I got out of my car and looked above. I caught sight of a different object. It moved in a straight line towards the first object which reappeared. I then lost sight of both objects. I'm convinced what I saw were not planes or helicopters. Anyway, the second object was miles above me - further than any plane I've seen. By the way, our torches failed when it went over - but the street lights were OK."

After a night out at a local pub our group had paired off for the walk home. From our vantage point on Wepre Drive I saw three large amber spheres travelling at high speed over the river Dee by the steelworks. Although I had been drinking I looked at my female friend who hadn't touched a drop because of an antibiotic she was on. She looked at me and asked if I had just seen them too. No explanation.

I saw a ufo above Asda in Queensferry with my brother about 12 years ago. No doubt what it was - believe, don't believe. I know, we both saw it. He knows we both saw it. We speak about it often. No planes, no misunderstanding -defo a space ship.

Around 1984/85 I was about 8, my mum and I had been babysitting for my brother's daughter. They live just down the road from us. It was early hours of the morning and I remember seeing what looked like the moon, only huge. It was about 8/9 times bigger. It was glowing, orange, but not reflecting any light anywhere. I said to my mum, look at the size of the moon, she rushed me along quick, pulling at me. I kept saying to her, but look. She was very scared, but as a kid, I didn't think at the time. Years later when I mentioned it, she told me that no way was that the moon. Even to this day. In my mind, it was a very large moon, but never have I ever seen anything like that. It was glowing, orange in colour. Crazy I know, but I know what I saw!

I overheard a woman on the bus two weeks ago describe something her husband saw. It was like a large red ball that hovered then shot off towards the horizon. It sounds like the fiery ball described by striking miners in 1880 elsewhere on this site and a number of the reports on this page sound similar but these reports describe three of these lights in formation.

Saturday June 7 2008 me and my husband were travelling along Sealand Rd about 10.30/10.45pm towards Chester. Over the rooftops of one the smallholdings before the Saughall turn-off we saw a triangular formation of five or six orange/red orbs. They must have been a couple of hundred foot or so above. As quickly we saw them they just disappeared as if someone flicked a light switch. When I read 'Kim from Flint' and Andy Smith's reports they were very similar to what we saw. I knew nothing about all these reports. I mentioned it to a friend she told me only last week there have been simlar sightings reported in the Flintshire Leader. I do not get this paper. Luckily, she salvaged it from the recyling. When I read it I was astounded and I still am.

For Kim from Flint (and anyone else who may be interested) this is the first time I've written this down: In 1981 I was (aged 14) on holiday in Rhyl with my family. As we walked along the front back to our caravan late that evening, I saw what looked like a very bright star (though slightly brighter than any I'd ever seen) that flew silent and tailess, crossing the sky in a straight line almost directly overhead from east to west, disappearing over the horizon in about 3 or 4 seconds. I had barely time to call out to my folks when two more such "stars" followed the same path, side by side. They didn't look like shooting stars or satellites, and seemed far too fast (and silent) to be planes. Not exactly flying saucers (I'm still not convinced of such things), but odd nonethelss. I've been a keen stargazer since before then, and I'm an engineer and scientist with a PhD now, but I've never reached an acceptable explanation for what I saw that night, nor seen anything else so strange.

My husband & I saw a v shaped craft at 3am Friday morning over the Irish Sea. It was low enough to see the colour gray. We live on Rhyl front.

I have done quite a good bit of research on UFOs and I am convinced thay are not aliens or for that part martians. I do however believe they are a top secret Government project. In fact, it has been found to be one of the USA top Gov. secrets. If you want some good evidence and explanations go to YouTube and just search for UFO videos - there is about an 80 min. video.

For Kim from Flint. Yes when I was about 13 (1993) I was sat on my mum's and dad's shed roof talking to my older brother through his bedroom window and I saw a group of orange oval lights high, high up cross the night sky. They were going at an incredible speed crossing the sky horizon to horizon in about 5 seconds. They were in a perfect triangle formation.

When I was about 10 or 11 I saw a triangle of what I thought were stars moving across the sky. It was a perfect triangle. Has anybody else ever seen that?

In 1986 myself and 5 friends along with tourists watched 2 objects darting back and forth over the sea...they were brilliant silver and made no noise but they were really big...they went in the direction of Puffin Island then returned coming right at us and shot right over the castle and as they did so they joined together into one large object then went straight up very fast...the police also were present and we all gave our names and addresses.
