Friends' close encounter

Last updated: 21 July 2007

Two friends returning from a coffee morning could not have been prepared for what happened next, writes UFO investigator Margaret Fry.

Witness drawing of UFO seen over the Marble Church, Bodelwyddan

For the women saw this image 60ft above the spire of the famous Marble Church, Bodelwyddan. The friends told UFO investigators afterwards that it took some time before they could believe their eyes. The craft was hovering silently above the church and their car. The women drew this picture to try and help investigators to understand what it was they saw. To their mind it was pear-shaped with round green, blue and red lights either side of a bigger central white light which was situated at the bottom of the object.

Marble Church, BodelwyddanThe object was "really beautiful" and was quite small; they estimate it was about 18ft tall. It had a wide rim and rounded top and passed very slowly over the church and over the tops of nearby homes.

The pair said that immediately after the craft had flown away they found themselves in an elated but dazed state. The incident happened on November 2 1992 at about 4.45pm and was reported to officers at Prestatyn Police Station.

Although the sighting happened alongside the church which can be seen from the busy A55 Expressway and a residential area, no other sightings were apparently received.
