Ghost soldiers do battle
Last updated: 08 December 2008
Imagine hearing the sounds of swords clashing, men fighting and horses - but you couldn't see a thing. Did E Hughes come across ghosts doing battle from the
'Alleluiah' ambush in 429AD?
On Gwernaffield Road just outside of Mold, I was hunting in 1997 in a field called monument field. I was in the woods and at this point I would point out that neither me or my dog, Bruce, was scared of anything but that night my blood ran cold my body froze.
We heard what I thought were horses dragging a farm machine that made a clatter of metal but when I investigated if it was a farmer out late at 1.40am as I stood in the field in the light of the full moon I could see nothing.
But as I walked away from the monument the noise became louder until I sensed that I was upon the area of the noise it was definitely horses and swords clashing and men fighting, screaming as in death.
I believed I had my first supernatural encounter and have never returned. My dog was cowering at my side and it did scare us both because we can't explain what we didn't see in that open field that night.

I believe you too because I have had experience like you. I am Cambodian, one day probably, July 1998, I'm walking with a few of my relatives downside to Angkor Area. Something caught my eye. I saw a figure in armour suit with sword in the distance and we can't see his face clearly because it too dark (around 9pm). After that we were really scare and run to report that to the Police. However we never able to explain what happened.

Yes, Mold has a history of violent warfare over the centuries - the battle of 'Alleluiah' being one of them.

My son says he used to see a black knight fighting a white knight in our garden in Offa, Lodgevale Park, Chirk. He says they came down from Chirk Castle.

I believe you because some friends and I were in Conwy recently and as we were walking through the town something caught my eye at the castle . I looked up and saw a figure in one of the window. He was shining as if he was made of steel and there was a flaming torch in his hand. I turned round to get my friends' attention, looked back and it was gone. So if what I believe was a soldier standing gaurd (as they would have done) I see no reason as to why they wouldn't do all that their jobs involved, including battle. Congratulations, you were possibly the first modern day man to be entered into the deapths of a Medieval battle.
