'I saw my dead colleague'

Last updated: 22 January 2009

Your views on Special Constable Mark Davies' encounter with the ghost of a colleague.

speech marks I am a Special Constable at Wrexham. A few years ago, I was fuelling up the 'Rowdy' minibus at the petrol pump outside the police station. It was a clear summer evening.

I saw a reflection of a policeman in the side window of the van. He came and stood behind me with his arms folded. I couldn't see his face because of the angle, which meant he was a fair bit taller than me (I'm 6' tall).

I watched him for 20 or 30 seconds, but he didn't move or speak, so I turned to tell him I was almost finished; there was no-one there. The car park was deserted, and there was nowhere he could have gone to. A couple of months before this, a 6'5" traffic officer based at Wrexham had died in an on-duty motorcycle crash. speech marks

I have a similar experience as Emma. I've always been aware of spirits, but two years ago it became more enhanced. I was thrilled and delighted with the things I was seeing and hearing. I felt the experience was beautiful and filled with goodness and light. Until the frightening things started happening. I would hear and feel a whooosh and then something evil and dark would press me down trying to get inside my head and chest. I could hear whispering that I knew instintively not to listen to. I would be paralysed and I could not scream. After a few seconds of utter terror in my mind I ask God, the angels over and over to help me, save me and I strongly tell the spirit to leave me and get out. It's happened 3 times in 3 different houses and I am petrified of it happening again. Now I don't let anything come through not even the good ones. I have a ritual I do every night to protect myself so I won't see anything, hear anything but most of all that nothing may touch or terrify me.

I've just come across this website and I think it's great. I've always had an interest in ghosts and spirits since I was young. I have seen lots of weird things that I can only descibe as being ghosts. I remember seeing two ghosts when I was young and my breath just left my body and I started to cry afterwards. Both ghosts were in the house where I lived with my parents. One was short and black and it appeared in the morning in the hallway and was just moving its arms but it was just an outline about 5 foot 3 in height. I couldn't see its face and I don't think it was aware of my watching it. I didn't feel scared until the ghost left out of the front door into the street then vanished. I never saw it again. The other ghost appeared about 7 years later in the evening in the summer. I was walking through the same hallway not thinking of anyting to do with ghosts when a white shape appeared from nowhere and just blocked my way. It stood very tall and I couldn't make out what it was other than it was a ghost. It disappeared after about 5 seconds but I will never forget it. It may sound daft but I feel I am phychic as when I feel a spirit around I go icy cold and the lights start to dim or go out. Also I can sense things will happen before they do. My father passed away 3 years ago and I knew that this was going to happen before it did, luckily I sent my partner to go and check dad who was lying on the floor and had an aneursym in the aorta and needed help immediately. He had an operation but died 9 days later.

A similar thing happened to me when I was 19. I had come home after a month away and as I turned into our road I saw an old neighbour of ours who always stood at her doorstep and waved when you walked by. On this particular day she waved and I waved back and shouted out that I hoped she was OK. She smiled in response. I went home and a couple of hours later as we were sitting at the dining table I mentioned to my mum that old Dora was looking well. My mum just stared at me with a look of shocked surprise on her face because apparently Dora had been buried 2 weeks previously after short illness.

I can recall very clearly this incident where back in London, when I was about seven years of age we were coming out of Church and it was around eleven in the night when on a road near our flat where we were standing that a ghost appeared in a full length-apparition. It was about the size of a fully grown man and he had fine features but strangely enough the guy himself was a neighbour of ours as he died from a fire that had torched down his house a week prior to the apparition. He was a shady blue colour, very ghostly looking, wearing modern clothes - perhaps blue jeans and a top but it was very hard to tell what type of clothes they were as he was in the spiritual world so the appearance of his clothes was all blurred. He brushed through my brother walking near to the man and as he went through him and my brother in turn said: "Mum, I feel cold." For that very second the figure disappeared. I believe firmly this soul was the man who died in the fire that burnt down this man's flat.

I have an interesting story from when I was younger. I was about 7 at the time and was on a family holiday in Austria. We were staying in Berg Bernstein, which some of you may not know is the castle that Lazlo Almazy lived in who was the English Patient (yes he was a real person), I digress. So when we arrived there I got a funny feeling about the place. I never really liked it, it spooked me out. Now we were staying in the family quarters. During the night I had the most distinct feeling of someone sitting down on the end of my bed and I looked down to see a dark figure, which to me looked the size of an adult, so I assumed that it was one of my parents. But since the room was locked with only my brother and I in it it could not have been. In the morning there was still a dent in the bed where the person had been sitting and after asking my family if it had been any one of them, none of them knew what I was talking about. I was wondering if anyone can shed any light on this, maybe ghosts in the castle?

I have had several experiences, but mostly from close buddies who have passed on. Although in the UK, I have known immediately because they have passed by to say goodbye even before the phone rang.

I can't say I believe all this but something inside of me wants to, that's why I tink it's wrong to diss those who say they have seen things. I live by the saying we should be more scared of the living than the dead.

You don't believe it? Then you'll probably never be privileged to experience it. What are you browsing this site for then? Perhaps you will one day...after all. My friend Johnny drowned in Lake Kariba two weeks ago, beginning Feb 2008. I was alone in the flat, when three days later, while watching TV in the lounge, someone switched on my kettle to boil. I knew it was Johnny, passing through to say goodbye. And, no, I don't do drugs and alcohol either. Get a grip!

Cool story. I just don't get why ghosts would be wearing clothes?! As you can tell I do not believe in them, but I guess every1 says that until they think they have seen one.

There is a ghost at the west London police station. The old custody cells have been closed for a while now. When I'm sitting there at night time I always hear something drop on the floor in the room where the stair down to the cells is situated. It sounds like an old sticker or something. And it's always when no one but me is in the building at the front office. Officers are usually coming and going and I can't see them exept from the CCTV if they are going in to the back yard. I have learnt when people finish their shifts and usually the lift goes or the back door opens and closes. I've learnt how sounds belong to different doors etc. As I said the old custody in the basement is disused. But I can sometimes hear heavy doors slam. And that's when a team has gone off duty long time gone... Also when I walk past the stair case leading down I can smell a smell of soot or fire. When I first smelled it I had to ask a colleague of mine. We went down to check but no fire found. Strange as well as the fire alarm did not go off. The same colleague told me jokingly that there was a prisoner who had committed suicide down there whilst in custody. If he used matches I don't know... This smell of soot or burn only whiffs by at rare occasions. And it's not the bonfire outide... I don't feel scared though. I know he likes me and I know he doesn't go too near me. I think he can't observe me as he is stuck down there. But maybe it's him who makes the sticker fall trying to come near me. I never find anything on the floor though.

Hi, Just wondering whether anybody can shed any light on this one. My mum studied in Wrexham college in 1974 - Jan 1976. She stayed in a house in Belgrave Road (can't remember the house number). My mother who is a practical and logic person, says that she actually met a ghost whilst living in Belgrave Road. She believed that he was young and of eastern origin, and believed that there was an understanding between them. I am reluctant to give further details at this point, but would be very grateful if anybody could let me know whether a tragedy happended in a house in Belgrave Road or any other points of interest. Thanks.

When I was 16 years old I had a very scary experience. My little sister and I shared a bedroom. One night I woke up about between 1 and 3am, when I opened my eyes a black flame shadowy shaped thing was on top of me breathing very heavily. My first reaction was to scream and hit this unknown thing, but I was so scared my whole body was paralysed and could not catch my breath. I could sense this was some sort of evil spirit. The room was very cold and this was summer, as I was on my summer holidays. I think it was trying to take my breath away. After what did really seem to be a lifetime, my scream came out and I hit this evil spirit. My arms went straight through it. Then suddenly the spirit went flying through my sliding glass patio bedroom doors. I ran to my mum and dad's room, woke my mum up, I was nearly having a panic attack trying to tell my mum what had just happened. I stayed in their bedroom, in the middle of them. Do you realise how freaked out I must have been to sleep in the middle of my mum & dad at the age of 16. It got worse about a week later, the same evil black shadowy spirit came back again. I woke up so scared and paralysed again, but caught my breath back quicker this time. Once more I screamed as I looked this terrifying spirit in the face. The spirit was so dark, I could not make out a face. It went flying through the sliding glass patio bedroom doors again. That night I got in bed with my sister. I stayed awake most of the night, too scared to go back to sleep. I felt so angry with this evil spirit for coming to see me. It must have known it was scaring me to death. What did I do wrong? The next day I spoke to my mum about these 2 experiences. She believed me and said I should tell the spirit to stop coming to see me, and scaring me next time it comes to see me. I should face my fears, telling this spirit to leave me alone and stop coming to scare me. I knew my mum was right, I did need to show this evil spirit I was not scared of it. Maybe this evil demon spirit was feeding off my fear. I think it was enjoying scaring me or something. Around 2 weeks past, I thought maybe I will not see the evil demons again. But it came to me once more, this time I was scared but ready to tell the evil demon to leave me alone. I stared right at the spirit, whilst it lay on top of me. I shouted at the demon telling it to stop coming to see me. I was so angry I used very rude words to scare the evil spirit demon off. I also swung my arms in its face, my arms went straight through its face again. It worked, the demon vanished through the window once more. It didn't stay as long as the other times, I felt scared also happy I faced my fear. I showed the evil spirit I was not scared of it. I knew it was over, no more visits. I could feel it in my heart. A month later I found out why the evil demon spirit was visiting me. My older sister had been released from Holloway Prison 3 months prior to my experiences. Whilst she was in there she used a Ouija board. She said they got in touch with the spirits. The day she had been released from prison, she gave me a ring. It was silver with a black stone in the middle. I was wearing this ring each time the spirit came to me. When my sister told me this, I went across the road from my house and threw the ring into a bin. I have not seen the spirit since. It's now been 4 years as it all happened in 2003. I will never use a Ouija board. You should not play with things you don't understand. This is just one of my weird experiences.
