The castle is situated atop a steep hill with the remains of the motte just below, and it has three remaining walls as a reminder of a once great fortification built in the 13th century. It was destroyed by fire at a later date and the scorch marks are still clearly visible on two walls. The castle is surrounded by woodland and provides a great view of the surrounding areas.
As we got to the castle, members began to walk around and take photos and do any recordings for any paranormal activity. Photos were taken with digital cameras and soon enough orbs began to appear on photos. I made a point of reminding members to make sure they were spirit orbs and not rain drops on the camera lens. But we began to get glowing orbs, moving orbs and mist. Some of the glowing orbs were quite large and had the appearance of comets (trail marks) showing movement.
During the evening all members were chatting and getting on well with each other and we were joined by Tony Bell and Mandy Jones from the local Evening Leader newspaper. Tony chatted to me and Mandy took random shots of the group and even got orb photos herself.
All members then made their way to the Packhorse bridge, and more orbs were captured. Dawn Phoenix, a member of SEA Ellesmere Port, picked up on someone drowning in the river under the bridge and asked her husband John to take a photo. He did and captured an orb in the area she felt a presence. Dawn was told by a member of the Wrexham team that somebody had indeed drowned in the river near the bridge. Orbs were captured on camera by a number of members during the stay at the bridge, which was very quiet and quite spooky.
Anna Chapman showed us how our breaths can be shown as spooky mist on a digital camera when she took a photo of the bridge and there appeared to be a yellowish mist to the side. I took a photo whilst breathing out and got the same effect, well done Anna; it just shows how you can be fooled even by camera. A good tip for the future when taking photos at night, as with rain droplets, which can produce orb effects. But we now know what to look for and we find it hard to believe that rain can travel upwards and glow in the dark, unless it's radioactive!
