There is a mill by the river but to get to the really spooky part you have to walk under a bridge. It belongs to the National Trust. Anyway, by the bridge in Biniki there is a tree where events have occurred for centuries.
We normally go there during the summer months and sit on the side by what is called Hang Man's tree for obvious reasons. There has always been a presence there and I can sense paranormal activity quite easily. That's why everyone comes with me.
This one night though it got very scary indeed, so much so I told everybody to get up and make for the road. My niece, myself and my husband got across the bridge in time but as we turned to scream for the others they had been blocked off with what can only be described as a distorted shape of mist. It was just floating there and when they moved, it moved.
We screamed for them to run but it followed. They ran through the river but it didn't cross. As we ran nearly a mile to get out of there it was on the other side of the river along side of us every inch of the way back to the mill where it stayed in the woods. Quite an experience.
I spoke to someone many weeks after that and I asked them when they were younger did they ever experience anything there. They described the same shape even though I had not mentioned it. We have been back there and it has happened a few more times at the same time around about 2.25am.
We have only ever managed to stay there once through the night. This is only one area that has activity. Coming back from there another night we couldn't stay because it was getting a bit uneasy there. We started to walk back though and got out safe and sound.
However as we passed through the gates on the opposite side of the old mill me and my brother saw a man walking straight at us, we moved apart so he could pass between us. We said 'hello' to him but he ignored us.
Anyway we turned to make sure my husband was OK because he was straggling behind. As we turned the man just walked straight through him. I looked at my brother and he looked at me. My husband was oblivious to it all and said he saw no-one there. All I can say is there are many discssions about Biniki but you have to be there at the right time and the spirits seem to love being there when I am.

I remember Lady Palmer stories but that was over on the Palmers farm not by the Mill. We used to go on the farm fields when we were kids/teens and down to old mill brickworks etc but never experienced any strange goings on. Would have liked to though as I am into the paranormal etc. Will have to visit next time I am in Wrexham!

Jill: what can I say I was young lol. Paula: I have no idea about Lady Palmer or even how I heard of her it was just something we scared each other over when we walked through at night or even while camping down there in the 80s (good days!). Mike: yes I remember the shooting range another haunting place of mine (pardon the pun lol). Do you remember the big green tunnels near the barracks and the goat over the wall (god I was naughty then lol!), thanks you guys!

It's alright saying I believe it or I don't believe it, you don't know until you witness it yourself so don't say it's a load of rubbish until it's happened to you.

I remember this area well, it was my hunting ground in 1960 to 1964 most nights and weekends and have never seen anything or anyone else at that time say anything either? I remember that the Royal Welsh had a army camp on the top road and a assualt course, that we used to play on and a shooting range and living quarters nearby. I don't think they have seen anything or it would have been common knowledge.

To Mel, I have heard of Lady Palmer haunting her fields on her white horse. Did she live in the Hall on the Cefn Road? Was that hall Llwyn Onn or a different one? I have looked up the history of Llywn Onn but it does not mention the Palmers. Is there another hall there?

What do you expect if you go and sit by a river in the middle of the night?

I have lived in Wrexham all my life from a very young age Biniki has been my second home and sometimes my first. I have spent all times of the day and night all seasons camping fishing. We had heard of Lady Palmer on a white horse we used to scare each other up about her but never ever saw anything. I come from a big family we all used to stay down there but no one ever saw anything day or night. The only dodgy thing that ever happened to me was one night me and a mate were fishing near the old mill right under the old stone bridge next to the mill, and all of a sudden what I can only describe as a woman's very load scream, it was as if she was standing right next to us in my ear almost. Well needless to say we took off like the wind, my mate is ten years older then me and not the fittest of people but I could not catch him. I or we have not been fishing down there since (well not at night). PS does anyone know of Lady Palmer? Thanks.

Biniki? That name is short for Brynacabanau, just up the road. During summer hoidays in the 70s we used to go down there every day, whether it be fishing, swimming or just messing about. Awesome memories of that place. Does anyone remember the shooting range the other side of the river?

I always remember my dad telling me and all my brothers and sisters about Lady Palmer and that there was also a rhyme that the children used to sing about her, but I only recall odd things about it now, having left Wrexham 20 or so years ago as a child. Can anyone shine a light on this for me?
