Kevin Keegan

England and Newcastle football legend who lived in Nannerch, near Mold.

Born:
14 FEB 1951
Place of Birth:
Armthorpe
Biography:

Kevin has no other connections with the region except that he lived here for a time when playing for Liverpool.

He had relatives in the area and so settled down for a while on the outskirts of Mold and became a familiar face to some people who share their memories below.

Jeanette says he was a regular at Park Avenue, having Sunday dinner at her Nan's while Albert remembers he lived at gamekeeper's cottage above Tarth y Dwr, near Star Crossing, in the mid '70s.

I still have Kevin Keegan poster hanging on my bedroom wall as a Liverpool player. He is the best of the best and better than Maradona, if I may say. Go Keegan go, Owen is his predecessor.

When Kevin left Cilcain we bought his black cob and called it Gola. It was not very good to shoe but lots of people enjoyed riding him at the riding stables then at Bryn Coch on the Connah's Quay road in Northop.

Kevin lived near Cilcain. He presented sports day prizes at Ysgol-y-Foel on at least one occasion which was great for me as he was my sporting hero. But I remember one very snowy winter's afternoon trying to hitch a lift from Mold to Cilcain. There were no cars going that way until out of the gloom appeared Keegan in his yellow Triumph Stag. I was already thinking of what I would be telling my friends at school the next day but my heart sank as he slowly cuised by leaving me to trudge the 5 miles home. Unfortunately, I didn't find him stuck in the snow on the way. Pity!

Jeanette Dobson (nee Walstow)
Kevin used to be good friends with my Uncle Tom Walstow and he was often a guest at my Nana's dinner table on Park Avenue. I now live over the road from the shops - no longer a chip shop but still a general store.

Kevin lived in Beech road near to the two shops one was a fish and chip shop (1963) and the other was a general store. My sister Lily Griffiths taught him for a while at Mere lane school.

Kevin didn't live in Nercwys, he lived in Nannerch.

Web Team replies: Graham, why did Kevin come to live here and from what period was he here?
