Johnny Basham

Biography:
The boxer Johnny Basham was stationed at the Barracks in Wrexham for many years. His boxing career made him famous in the town and many of his fights took place at the Barracks or the Drill Hall on Poyser Street.

He was managed by Alderman William Dodman, a well known figure in the town, and he won the Lonsdale Belt and the European Championship. He died in 1947.
