Hannah Blore

Hannah Blore 2005 Byte Women's World Sailing Champion.

Place of Birth:
Wrexham
School:
Victoria Junior School, Bryn Offa and Yale Sixth Form College
Biography:
Hannah has been sailing since the age of seven. In 1994 as the youngest competitor in the Mirror European Championships sailing with her father, she won the Super Crew cup and she won her first competition, sailing an Optimist dinghy at the age of nine.

Hannah was brought up and educated in Wrexham, attending Victoria Junior School, Bryn Offa and Yale sixth Form College. She is now at University in Plymouth studying Politics and Economics.

Hannah learnt to sail and race at Gresford Flash, one of the smallest sailing clubs in Britain. She sails at Gresford when home from University and enjoys coaching the juniors on a Friday night.

Hannah as a junior and youth sailor was a member of both the Welsh and GBR National squads and received a great deal of support and training from the Welsh Yachting Association at Plas Menai, Caernarfon. She has raced all over the UK and Europe. For the past 18 months, Hannah has been competing in the Olympic women's single-handed Europe class, and finished 3rd in the UK national ranking.

Hannah has been sailing a Byte class dinghy for the past four years. Hannah is the ideal weight and size for this boat (which is a possible candidate class for the 2012 Olympics) and has had the most success with this boat. She was 2nd in the 2002 Byte National championships, she has been first for the past two years in the Inland Championships and this year won five of the six races to take the national championship title.

At the 2005 World Championships on Lake Garda, Italy, problems with the new mast looked like she might miss out on the world title but Hannah was able to recover her position with some excellent results on the last day of racing. She beat her close rival Elizabeth Yin from Singapore and Hannah brought home the trophy and title 2005 Byte Women's World Champion.

Hannah will continue to race the Byte and is looking forward to defending her inland championship title for the third year on the run. Hannah will be going to Croatia in August to compete in the Laser Radial European championships before returning to her studies at Plymouth University.
