Royd became a fan of the Hobbit whilst a small boy and he grew up on a farm in Sychdyn, near Mold, Flintshire, where fellow enthusiasts would gather annually to enact scenes from his great grandfather's storylines.
Royd has no memories of J.R.R Tolkien as he was four when his great grandfather died, but he read and re-read many times the books by the creator of The Lord of the Rings.
In fact, his passion for Tolkien's works led to Royd getting to know the creator of the movies, Peter Jackson, and eventually a part in the final instalment of Jackson's trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, the Return of the Kings.
In the film Royd, plays a Gondorian ranger (pictured top (left) with Royd's friend and business partner, Justin Nicholls, who also played a ranger), and he has spent much time in New Zealand - where all The Lord of the Rings movies have been filmed.
And he came to know well several of the cast's big names including Elijah Wood, who plays Frodo.
Whilst working in New Zealand Royd told interviews he fell in love with the country and hopes to do some work out there as he runs his own music management and television production company, Creative People UK.
Just before this trip to New Zealand Royd visited his great grandfather's old house in Northmoor Road, Oxford, where he lived from 1930 to 1947 and where he started writing The Hobbit for his children.
