A successful star of stage and screen, Jonathan is one of the many famous faces to have passed through the gates of Holywell High school.
The son of shopkeepers Isaac (a former coal miner) and Margaret Price, Jonathan's stage debut came in an Infant school production, where his only line of dialogue was given to another child. Was this early snub the moment that sealed his resolve to achieve stage success?
The youngest of three children (with two older sisters), Jonathan attended Holywell Grammar School (now Holywell High School), though doesn't recall his days there with much fondness; much of his time was spent waiting outside the Headmaster's office. Despite this he trained in Ormskirk to be a teacher, which is where the acting bug took hold and after drama classes applied to join RADA.
Following many years as a character actor and stage lead for the RSC, he achieved a breakthrough in the cult film 'Brazil', ex-Monty Python animator Terry Gilliam's black comedy. Gilliam cast Pryce as Sam Lowry, a bewildered clerk lost in a nightmarish world whose only escape lies in his dreams.
Since then, Jonathan has achieved acclaim for stage roles in 'Miss Saigon' and 'My Fair Lady', and remained in the public eye with films such as 'Evita', 'Regeneration' and 'James Bond 007: Tomorrow Never Dies'.
Moment of Glory: Soaring above the clouds as Sam Lowry in 'Brazil', Terry Gilliam's satirical re-working of George Orwell's '1984'.
Off the Record: 'Rotten Tomatoes', a site dedicated to the very worst of cinema, tackles some of his films which may not have lived up to expectations.
