Gareth 'Gaz Top' Jones

Holywell-born TV presenter and actor.

Born:
05 JUL 1961
Place of Birth:
St Asaph
Trivia:
In 1976 Gareth founded two bands - 'Backseat' and 'The Units', going on to release an EP with 'The Grids' in 1979. In 1986 he released a solo single 'Don't Get Me Wrong' as Gaz Top, a tribute to the American Space Programme. One of Gareth's earliest co-stars was Gilbert the Green Alien on 'Get Fresh', a puppet voiced by impressionist Phil Cornwell - who's since gone on to find fame as one half of all the characters in the cult TV comedy 'Stella Street'.
Biography:

Local punk rocker turned presenter, 'Gaz Top' spent many years touring as a technician with rock band The Alarm, before TV came calling in the mid eighties.

In 1985 Gareth won a screen test for Janet Street Porter, who was looking for talent for a new ITV Saturday morning show. Gareth won through and got his big break as host of 'Get Fresh', which ran for three years.

The son of a Yorkshire father and Welsh mother, Gareth has appeared in many programmes in both English and Welsh as actor and presenter, more recently becoming a mainstay of afternoon science television with 'How 2' and 'The Big Bang'.

Moment of Glory: The big break - Gaz Top arrives in the Millennium Dustbin to launch 'Get Fresh'.
