I promise to track down K Roberts. I've read a lot of Gwyn Thomas, who knew something of the hardscrabble, didn't he. If there's a better little novel than 'Venus and the Voters' I'd like to see it.

I am studying a book, Mynydd Grug, in school at the moment as a part of my GCSE and I am enjoying a lot of her stories because I used to live near her home so know quite a lot about her and my dad lived down the road from her. I am looking forward to getting more history about her as she was a good author.

Rwy'n hoff iawn o'r straeon 'Te yn y grug'. Ar ol darllen y llyfr, wnes i weld y ffilm, "Y mynydd grug". Roedd e'n hawddach i ddeall, ac roedd y ffilm wedi cael eu cyfleu'n dda. Mae'r stori/ffilm yn dod lan yn fy arholiad Llen. Rwy'n falch i gael Te yn y Grug, i astudio!

I am glad to see that Kate Roberts's work is read with pleasure and appreciation. I published 'Te Yn y Grug' in its first English edition, 'Tea in the Heather' translated by Wyn Griffith, in 1968. This was when I was publishing books from my base in Ruthin. It was originally a hardback with a white dust-jacket with a line-drawing on it. In the mid-1970s when I was living in Cardiff, I wrote a translation of 'Traed Mewn Cyffion' with Kate Roberts's help. I submitted the text to her piece by piece and she made some suggestions which I incorporated in the text. It was first published in 1977 as a hardback with a jacket in a dark maroon colour featuring a colour photograph of mine of the Dorothea Quarry, Nantlle Valley. The title, which is not a literal translation from the Welsh, was mine.

The book in English is now published in paperback by Seren Publishing; this features my translation.

Keith Roberts. Born in Denbigh.
In the 1950s K Roberts had a dog named Bob. I used to walk past her cottage four times a day going and coming from school. I had many a conversation with her but only in Welsh. She would never speak in English. If I wished to see her I would kick the chain link fence surrounding her garden and Bob the dog would bark and she would come out yelling Bob and she would see me and ask, 'what do you want?' in Welsh.

We're studying 'Te yn y grug' and the film 'y mynydd grug'(the film based on the book) at the moment. She is a great author, and I hope that her excellent writing has passed down the family on to me (she is my great great aunt I think, but I know she's definately related to me).

I am currently studying Te yn y Grug and Y mynnydd Grug(the film based on the novel) for my Welsh GCSE and i truly belive that she is an exceptional author. However it would be of great help to me if the BBC would place a section in their BBC Bitesize website to help me to revise. If we as students are truly to do justice to her novel then we must be able to revise it thoughroughly. RW

We are both Denbigh-born and have lived in Dr Kate's house "Y Cilgwyn" for the last 20 years. We often have people to come and look at the house and plaque. It has also been used for making TV programmes about her life on a few occasions.
We both remember her and her little dog which she adored, as we passed up and down the lane.
We think that her presence is still felt in the house.

I picked up a collection of Kate Roberts' stories because I thought that it would look good on my book shelf. What I did not realise was how much her writing would come to mean to me. Her tales of love and life during hard times do a wonderful job of grounding me for my trials as a physician. I recommend her writing to all.
