Pontneddfechan
Location: Pontneddfechan Waterfall.
Description of this walk: One of Wales' most popular walking spots packed with shaded gorges and spectacular waterfalls.
Last updated: 14 July 2008
The most famous waterfall on this walk is Sgwd Y Eira, which you can normally walk behind. Derek and his guide for the walk - Tony Ramsey, were scuppered by a rockfall this time and the path was closed for repairs.
When Derek did this walk, part of the route was closed for maintenance but it has now re-opened. Get the latest route information.
Undeterred, they took in another five beautiful waterfalls on the walk and Tony, a retired professor of geology and Scientific Director of the Brecon Beacons Fforest Fawr Geo-park, showed him some of the fascinating characteristics of the area.
They saw the 'Farewell Rock' marking the end of the South Wales coalfield and a wealth of plant fossils in ancient crags.
