It has enjoyed a varied history, from its burgeoning early popularity through to its current status as soundtrack to some of Wales' most important public occasions.
"My family originally hail from nearby Ynyshir, so I probably identify with the birthplace of the anthem more than most," says Max Boyce. "The national anthem is something all Welshmen carry in their hearts to all corners of the world."
