CARAD stands for Rhayader and District Community Arts. It was set up in 1994 after 250 local people came together to stage a play. The organisation's websites has details of upcoming events and courses as well as find out about the facilities at CARAD's offices in Rhayader. You can also find out more about its local history project, Chronicles.
Elan Valley

The Elan Valley was once home to 100 people, 18 farms, a school and a church. This website tells the story of how the locals were moved and the buildings demolished in order to flood the land, creating a series of dams to provide clean water for the people of Birmingham. The site also tells today's visitors what the Elan Valley can offer, saying that the 70 square miles of moorland, bog, woodland, river and reservoir are of national importance for their diversity of lower plants and that the estate is the most important area for land birds in Wales. There's an up-to-date list too of events and walks around the estate.

The website of the Cambrian Mountains Society is a comprehensive guide to the Mid Wales uplands of Pumlumon, Elenydd, and Mynydd Mallaen. The site includes information about the geology of the area and cultural heritage as well as a splendid selection of 360 degree panoramic photographs.
Mid Wales Bowling Association

The association represents a total of nine bowling clubs in Powys - including Rhayader, Brecon, Builth Wells, Hay on Wye, Knighton, Llandrindod Wells, Presteigne and Talgarth. Its not a particularly visual website but its information is up-to-date, with full details of new season fixtures, past results, club triumphs etc.

Not surprising perhaps for a council which prides itself on being a pioneer in the field of technology, this is a very comprehensive website with links to dozens local organisations - from off-road cycling in Radnorshire to community groups and business advice centres. Of course, you can also find out here who your local councillor is, what services the council provides and if you're job hunting, there's also a situations vacant section.

The Radnorshire Genuki site is a no-frills site but provides a useful portal, singposting where to go to look for further information about ancestry from this part of Powys.
Rhayader and Elan Valley Angling Association
