Machynlleth

Machynlleth Town Clock We've put together a list of some of the main websites for Machynlleth. Tell us about any others you've come across.

  • Check out our Machynlleth Guide.

    Centre for Alternative Technology
    http://www.cat.org.uk
The centre's website is packed full of information, both for visitors who want to see the 40-acre site for themselves and for people looking for information about environmentally-friendly schemes. You can print off fact-sheets on a range of topics, from alternative transport fuel to sheep's wool insulation and small scale wind power projects. You can also take a virtual tour around the centre and find out about job vacancies.

    Dyfi Biosphere
    http://www.dyfibiosphere.org.uk
There are 482 UNESCO Biosphere areas in the world, but the Dyfi is the only one in Wales. This web site is part of a consultation exercise to see if locals want to keep and use this status. You can read the consultation document (or a summary of it), keep up to date with public events and news and have your say and discuss issues on the Forum. You can also read about other biosphere areas.

    Ecodyfi
    http://www.ecodyfi.org.uk
This is a very clearly laid out website, run by an organisation set up to promote sustainable community regeneration in the Dyfi Valley. Its home page asks if you're a local person, a potential visitor to the area, a local business or anyone interested in community development - one click and you're through to the sections most relevant to you. For example, if you're a local, there's an events calendar, information on public transport services, weather forecasts etc. If you're a visitor, you can get advice on where to stay in the area and things to do. Easy to use and lots to do.

    Festival in the Shire
    www.festivalintheshire.com
This website publicises the Festival in The Shire which takes place at Plas Machynlleth between 13 and 15 August 2010. The site has sections on the festival itself, exhibitors, the associated conference and more.Suggested by Mark Faith from Machynlleth

    Machynlleth Badminton Club
    http://www.machbadminton.btinternet.co.uk
This is a local site about Machynlleth Badminton club, including a full list of tournaments and fixtures for the Meirioneth League, the North Powys League and the Mid Wales Senior Series and Competitions. There's also a notice board, a photo gallery and a history of the club which first met back in the 1930s.

    Machynlleth Biz
    http://www.machynlleth.biz/
This is a great 'magazine' style website featuring Machynlleth and the surrounding area. It includes news, comment via a comprehensive messageboard and links to other useful sites in the area. They are also open to submissions and the bulletin boards can be used to offer content or ideas.

    Machynlleth and Dyfi Valley
    http://website.lineone.net/~rkwilli/index.htm
A great little site put together by Dick Williams who now lives in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, but who grew up in Machynlleth and who says he retains a great fondness for this fine old town. It's got local information, history, myths, pictures and links not only for Machynlleth but the Dyfi Valley in general. It even takes you to a site where you can build your own Machynlleth clock tower from cardboard!

    Machynlleth Town Council
    www.machynlleth.eu/index.html
This site has information about current members of the town council as well as informative articles about the famous town clock and Plas House. There is also another section dedicated to an appeal to raise money for the town clock restoration fund.
    Suggested by Derek Trott

    Powys County Council
    www.powys.gov.uk
Not surprising perhaps for a council which prides itself on being a pioneer in the field of technology, this is a very comprehensive website with links to dozens local organisations - from off-road cycling in Radnorshire to community groups and business advice centres. Of course, you can also find out here who your local councillor is, what services the council provides and if you're job hunting, there's also a situations vacant section.

    Plas Machynlleth
    www.plasmachynlleth.com/
A website launched in October 2009 that provides information about the Machynlleth area. Sections include ebents, jobs, and a business index. Suggested by Derek Trott from Llanbrynmair

The Tabernacle Museum of Modern Art
    http://www.momawales.org.uk
Machynlleth's MOMA Wales website details the Tabernacle's recent history and provides all the news and information you'll need about current and upcoming events and exhibitions, including details of the summer music festival. It's worth browsing through the list of artists work the museum holds in its permanent collection, some of which you can see online. In all, over 30 digital reproductions on the site provide a good visual taster for contemporary Welsh art.

    Communities First: Bro Ddyfi
    http://commfirstpowys.org.uk/broddyfi/
Find out about the work of Bro Ddyfi Communities First, a Welsh Assembly Government initiative aimed at helping deprived areas. The page-long information on the Dyfi Valley lists various projects being undertaken and publishes contact details for the local co-ordinator.
