Environment
Do you want to find out where the best environmentally-friendly sites are in Ceredigion and Powys? We've found a few but let us know if we've left any good ones out.
Brecon Beacons National Park
http://www.breconbeacons.org/
The National Park Authority work with local communities towards a sustainable future and aims to help the public enjoy and understand the park. The Brecon Beacons host a range of outdoor activities and this website is a good starting point for visitors and locals alike. There's a diary of events, activities and guided walks in the area (although you won't find much going on in the winter months). You can also find out here what the Park Wardens do and read more about the work of the National Park Authority which is responsible for the day-to-day running of the park, planning applications etc.
Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales
http://www.cprw.org.uk
Based in Welshpool in Powys, the CPRW is a national organisation which campaigns on a range of issues affecting the rural environment. Its website gives details of current campaigns, such as the organisations opposition to wind farms. You can also read articles here from the CPRW's magazine Cymru Wledig, find out who runs your local branch and comment on what you think about the site.
Centre for Alternative Technology
http://www.cat.org.uk
The Centre for Alternative Technology - or CAT - was set up 25 years ago on the site of a former slate quarry near Machynlleth and it describes itself as "an environmental charity aiming to inspire, inform and enable people to live more sustainably". The centre's website is packed full of information, both for visitors who want to see the 40-acre site for themselves and for people looking for information about environmentally-friendly schemes. You can print off fact-sheets on a range of topics, from alternative transport fuel to sheep's wool insulation and small scale wind power projects. You can also take a virtual tour around the centre and find out about job vacancies.
Countryside Council for Wales
http://www.ccw.gov.uk
The CCW's website has a special section called "Spring to Life" which urges people to make small changes to their lifestyle to help the environment. Suggestions include using different light bulbs, buying local produce and re-using carrier bags. In other parts of the website, you can read about the work of the CCW in general, including the reserves it manages and special events.
Eco Dyfi Valley Partnership
http://www.ecodyfi.org.uk
This is a very clearly laid out website, run by an organisation set up to promote sustainable community regeneration in the Dyfi Valley. Its home page asks if you're a local person, a potential visitor to the area, a local business or anyone interested in community development - one click and you're through to the sections most relevant to you. For example, if you're a local, there's an events calendar, information on public transport services, weather forecasts etc. If you're a visitor, you can get advice on where to stay in the area and things to do. Easy to use and lots to do.
Environment Agency Wales
http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk
The agency's aim is to protect and enhance the environment as well as making a contribution towards sustainable development. The site offers a search facility which can direct users to local material - and there's also a children's section, including educational games.
Friends of the Earth Cymru
http://www.foe.co.uk/cymru
The Welsh section of the international environmental pressure group is completely bilingual and highlights the organisations campaigns in Wales. It has a news section and contact details for local groups (including Lampeter), as well as links to other FoE groups around the world.
Green Lane Burial Field and Nature Reserve
http://www.greenlaneburialfield.co.uk/index.htm
A website for an unusual family-run farm business in Montgomeryshire. As well as keeping cows and sheep, Upper Bryn Talch also offers green or natural burials. Browse the site to find out why the Humphreys family decided to diversify, discover what's involved in a green burial, reserve a plot and check prices. Suggested by Ifor from Newtown
Powys Zero Waste
www.powyszerowaste.org.uk
Powys Zero Waste exists to assist community based recyclers throughout Powys. That's recycling bodies who not only collect materials from households but also who provide social care and employment opportunities. This excellent website is easy to navigate and has information on recycling compost and household items, useful links and the latest news.

Wales Regional Waste Plans
http://www.walesregionalwasteplans.gov.uk/
This is a new website providing information about the development of the three regional waste plans for Wales. Unfortunately, there is currently only information specific to the North Wales Region on the website (this includes the north of Powys), but contact details for the other regions are available. However the website covering the North of Powys does provide easy access to all interested parties to information such as minutes of meetings, the draft regional waste plan, maps of the area and contact numbers. There are also feedback forms giving you an opportunity to provide your views on waste planning issues.

Do we do enough to protect the environment in our everyday lives or should we be doing more? Do we recycle as much rubbish as we could or does it all go into the same black bin bag? If you feel strongly about this issue, have Your Say and you could get a Talking Point going.
