Brecon

Brecknock Museum There are several websites for the Brecon area. Here are some of the main ones but if you know of any more, let us know.

  • Read more about the town in our Brecon Life pages.

    Brecon
    www.brecontown.co.uk
"This is a town where you'll enjoy losing yourself" states the homepage of this Brecon based website. Within its pages you'll find everything you need to know about Brecon including local history, information on events and festivals, a directory of local businesses and an accommodation guide. There's even a complete list of Brecon's town council members.

    Brecon Beacons National Park
    www.breconbeacons.org
From paragliding to windsurfing, gliding to kayaking, the Brecon Beacons host a range of outdoor activities and this website is a good starting point for visitors and locals alike. There's a diary of events, activities and guided walks in the area (although you won't find much going on in the winter months). You can also find out here what the Park Wardens do and read more about the work of the National Park Authority which is responsible for the day-to-day running of the park, planning applications etc.

    Brecon Jazz
    www.breconjazz.co.uk
The town's annual festival has his own dedicated website with full programme details as well as online booking. This section is usually updated in the months leading up to the festival. The site also provides information on places to stay in the area, camping facilities and car parks.

    Cradoc Golf Club, Brecon
    www.cradoc.co.uk
This website has been recommended to us by local member Steve Connelly from Crickhowell who emailed us to say the club has "arguably one of the most beautiful courses in Mid Wales. With views across the Brecon Beacons, Cradoc Golf Club is second to none!". The photos on the website are proof of the club's stunning setting - the best views apparently are from the 7th tee reached after a 'challenging' climb. You can check out all 18 holes online, find out about green fees and view a calendar of the year's Open Competitions.

    Brecon Cathedral
    www.breconcathedral.org.uk
The website for Brecon Cathedral is easy on the eye and easy to use. Pages include details of services, music lists and forthcoming events such as recitals and other concerts. There's also information for visitors, a guest book and contact details for staff and clergy.

    Brecknock Museum
    powysmuseums.powys.gov.uk
A no-frills site offering practical information about the musuem, including contact details and opening times. It also lists special events and exhibitions at the museum.

    Brecon Fringe
    www.breconfringe.co.uk

Brecon Fringe Festival happens alongside Brecon Jazz Festival - over 100 bands playing, mostly in pubs, mostly free and mostly not jazz! The website has information about gigs in Brecon and a gallery of photos about the fringe.

    Brecon and District Male Choir
    www.breconchoir.co.uk//
Brecon and District Male Choir's website includes sections on the choir's history, a diary, a photo gallery, and diary.
    Suggested by Keith Williams

    Llangorse Multi Activity Centre
    www.activityuk.com

This website claims that Llangorse is home of the largest indoor climbing and riding centre in Wales, and it does a good job of persuading you. With descriptions of the different activities, from riding to scrambling and climbing, the site gives all the contact details and hard information but is also accompanied by lots of follow up photos and a bit of video footage too. All you might need to be inspired!

    Suggested by Ryan Thomas

    Brecon Speakers Club
    www.breconspeakers.org.uk
This website is dedicated to the Berecon-based speakers club and has information on events, contests and sponsors. Suggested by Vince Stevenson of Brecon

    Theatr Brycheiniog
    www.brycheiniog.co.uk
A lively website listing details of performances, exhibitions and other activities at Brecon's Theatr Brycheiniog which opened in 1997. Browse the dropdown menu for various categories of performance or click on Diary of Events for a single page listing. You can't book tickets online but you can choose your seat and find out how to book over the phone, by post or at a local Tourist Information Centre. You can also download the theatre restaurant's tempting menu.

    Town Concert Band
    www.brecontownband.co.uk

This informative website provides a host of information about the band including details about its director, members, concert and events listing, audio samples of the band's repertoire and a photo gallery.

    Suggested by Dave Jones

    Artbeat Brecon
    www.artbeatbrecon.co.uk

Artbeat Brecon was formed as a group to market the unique galleries and cultural enterprises within Brecon. Their website has well defines sections highlighting group members, events and links.
Suggested by Gareth Wynn from Brecon.

    Visiting Brecon
    www.brecon.co.uk
If you're a tourist looking for somewhere to stay in Brecon, you'll probably find this site really useful. It also includes ideas on things to do and has some nice photos of the Brecon Beacons National Park, as well as listings for local businesses, restaurants, services etc. The discussion board does not seem to be very popular judging by the number of messages posted when we looked (0).
